CITY OF YUMA Water/Wastewater Operator in YUMA, Colorado

Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Necessary Special Requirements: Must possess, or be able to obtain, a Class B CDL driver's license. At a minimum the candidate shall be able to obtain within one year of the date of hire a Colorado Class D Wastewater Operator Certificate and Colorado Class I Collection Certificate.

Must be capable of performing strenuous and demanding physical labor in various challenging working conditions such as after normal working hours, during inclement weather conditions, and in emergency situations. Must be capable of working with and around potentially hazardous chemicals such as chlorine and other laboratory chemicals and materials. Must be able to maneuver rough terrain, stoop, bend, kneel, push, pull, and repeatedly lift 50 lbs. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for medium to very heavy work. Must be capable of safely sampling, working with, and being exposed to untreated sewage.

General Statement of Duties: Performs skilled, semi-skilled, and specialized operations of the City of Yuma's water distribution system, drinking water facilities, wastewater collection system, wastewater treatment facilities, and related grounds and equipment. Must be available and willing to work nights, weekends, holidays as necessary, and to accept on-call status as directed. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor(s). Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision and direction of the Water / Wastewater Department Supervisor. Examples of Duties: The following examples of duties are intended to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive. Performs work in the maintenance, repairs, flushing, and installation of the water distribution system as well as similar work performed in the wastewater collection system, including the operation of City's backhoe, sewer vacuum-jet truck, sewer line camera unit, as well as other vehicles and equipment. Performs work in the installation of new water and sewer taps and repairs to existing services. Operate City's treatment facilities, perform operational and performance tests, conduct sampling and laboratory testing, and create and maintain records and documents. Check, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair City's potable and nonpotable systems. Conduct routine maintenance, mowing and other tasks at the well sites and facilities grounds. Operate and maintain city irrigation systems among many other duties. May assist employees in other departments such as during emergencies, when related to special local events, or as needed in a typical team environment. Operates City's equipment such as backhoes, loaders, air compressor, generator, sewer vacuum-jet truck unit, dump trucks, pumps, and other mechanical and driven equipment, safely use 2 of 2 emergency confined-space monitoring, operating, and extraction equipment, among other equipment and devices.
