We are looking for you to join our team as a Manager, Materials and Process Engineering 1 based out of Woodland Hills, CA. As a manager of Material and Process Engineering at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. What You’ll get to Do:

You will provide functional management and program support to the Materials and Process Engineering team. As a functional leader, you will manage a group of material scientists, engineers and technicians. Your responsibilities will include working on strategic initiatives to help shape the future of hardware engineering excellence, facilitating employee growth, staffing, special assignments in support of the functional homeroom and maintenance of laboratories. Other duties will be required, as assigned.

The Materials & Process engineering team analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develops, analyzes and applies material properties, processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications. This is a full-time onsite role located in Woodland Hills, CA.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline w/ 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related experience, or a PhD with 0 years of experience

  • Knowledgeable with the analysis and testing of material properties

  • Familiar with qualification of parts, materials or processes

  • Demonstrated experience working in a lab environment

  • Technical leadership with a track record of completing projects on budget and schedule

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance within a specified timeframe

  • Ability to work onsite full-time in Woodland Hills, CA

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Secret clearance

  • A degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Physics

  • Lab Management / Maintenance experience

  • Experienced with failure analysis techniques and methods (RCCAs)

  • First hand experience with commonly used lab equipment used for materials and failure testing including Mechanical testing, Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Optical Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-Ray / CT, XRF or Ion Mill Polishing / Cross Sectioning

  • Direct management of people including performance management and hiring

Salary Range: $115,000 - $172,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
