PRIMARY FUNCTION:
\ Performs as the Citys primary collector of delinquent water and sewer customers and property taxpayers.
\ Responsible for handling of delinquent accounts, processing transactions timely, accurately, and efficiently.\ PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
\ Contacts delinquent accounts and may meet with citizens to review ability to pay and arrange payment schedules.
\ Documents assignments and citizen contacts to accurately record agreements and facilitate timely follow up payment agreements.
\ Reviews delinquent reports to monitor payment agreements and select accounts for pursuit.
\ Performs or supports collection activities such as through personal contacts, court appearances, coordination with other City employees, communications with inside and outside attorneys, and outside collection agencies.
\ Processes payments as required.
\ Prepares account history files to document collection efforts and customer payment habits for use in collection actions.
\ Participates in suggesting collection and payment strategies.
\ Develops a working knowledge of the Fair Debit Collection Practices Act, bankruptcy laws and the Wilmington City Code.
\ Performs all related work as assigned or required.
WORKING CONDITONS:
\ Normal office environment.
\ Frequently required to sit and use hands to fingers, handle, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
\ Occasionally required to walk, talk, or hear.
\ Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
\ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
