Overview

Job Title: RF Engineering Manager

Job Location: Williamsport, PA

Responsible for leading an Engineering team or department including planning, research & development, and execution of all tasking on projects, pursuits, and programs. Engineering team or department may encompass one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electrical, software, mechanical, systems, etc. May manage the design and execution (i.e. scope, schedule, budget and staffing) of projects as well as the development and improvement of engineering processes. Responsible for functional requirements of staffing (manpower/resource planning), recruiting, training, talent development, engagement, and retention of employees. Proactively collaborates with functional and business leadership teams to support business and program requirements and demands.

Leads and directs experienced professionals, lower level supervisors, or associate managers. Communicates within and outside of organization to explain and influence changes to policies, practices, or approaches. Makes significant improvements in processes, systems, or products. Establishes short- term operational plans with measurable contribution to function or business area results. Requires management and leadership knowledge in job area and comprehensive knowledge within professional discipline

Responsibilities

  • Devises the initial concept of a project and participates in the overall detailed product or process design.

  • Creates comprehensive program plans and schedules for meeting program or project objectives.

  • Leads problem solving efforts by taking individual corrective action or organizes efforts among other engineers, staff members and support departments.

  • Develops and implements training programs in conjunction with other Engineering Group Leaders and other functional Directors.

  • Creates original hardware, drawings, models, prototypes, software and processes to test the feasibility of the design or process being investigated.

  • Specifies and evaluates environmental conditions such as shock, vibration, temperature, etc.; analyzes equipment to establish test and operating conditions for conducting experimental tests.

  • Conceives and prepares proposals for new programs which may lead to new products; organizes and assists the functional Directors in creating comprehensive programs, products or services.

  • Utilizes all organizations within the facility to carry out engineering responsibilities.

  • Directs other engineers and technical support personnel as required; acts as mentor for less experienced engineers in all aspects of microwave tube engineering; ensures that engineers are trained in performing routine administrative functions such as product and project costing, ECO writing, etc.

  • Conducts performance appraisals for group members and makes salary recommendations.

  • Assumes responsibility for routine administrative functions within the group such as vacation and time-off requests.

  • Maintains a high level of technical competence and state-of-the-art awareness through investigations in trade journals, membership in technical societies, and forming liaisons with other key engineers and officials outside of the organization.

  • Establishes technical dialogue with customers under the direction of Sales & Marketing to ensure that the customer’s design specifications are met and that his requirements will be satisfied.

  • Develops cost estimates for products, projects and programs.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Requires management and leadership knowledge in job area.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline and may have broad understanding of other areas within the job function.

  • Requires a Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Physics or other related technical disciplines plus nine (9) years’ experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to manage large projects and direct other engineers and technicians.
