Job Summary

Distribution Engineer designing three phase and single-phase overhead lines, single phase underground lines, transformer loading calculations, and routine pole replacements and designs. These designs include primary, secondary, and new customer services. Other tasks include designing commercial and residential lighting systems and ensuring customer satisfaction, locating, and resolving underground faults, and programming/ installing smart fault indicators for distribution automation. These duties include writing up job estimates and project managing.

LTIIP infrastructure project design, budgeting, forecasting, and managing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, engineer, and lay out identified large distribution improvement projects ﴾line additions, rebuilds, and relocations﴿ including production of design packages, bid procurement and cost estimates.

  • Meet with customers and identify their service requirements, design and layout line extensions and produce project design packages and cost estimates. This includes the Electric Division's large project lighting system's installs and removals. Assist in the management of outdoor development designs, municipal, commercial, and residential contracts, and maintenance programs.

  • Perform special projects and other related engineering functions including assist preparing and administering the department budget, shadow higher grade engineers, prepare customer load sheets and assist in restoring service to customers after storms and other system trouble.

  • Support the Company’s make-ready construction program by acting as an interface between field crews and the engineering firms to ensure design goals are met and construction issues are addressed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of UGI's distribution line construction standards, methods, and equipment.

  • Knowledge of National Electric Safety Code and National Electric Code. PA 1-Call, and OSHA regulations pertaining to electric distribution work. Knowledge of UGI’s safety rules.

  • Knowledge of electrical distribution equipment & power requirements.

  • Knowledge of UGI’s Electric Service Tariff.

  • Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and effectively both written and verbal. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to deal with the public and represent the company in a professional manner. Ability to organize and deploy resources effectively.

  • Ability to work independently and manage projects from start to completion. Ability to adapt standard practices to meet unique customer needs.

Education and Experience

  • A BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree is preferred. Extent of experience will be considered if education is not in-line with the education requirement.

  • This position recommends two (2) years of experience with increasing responsibility and skill level.
