SUMMARY

Plans, directs, and implements organization safety program to ensure safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment; plans, coordinates, and directs training and staff development programs for organization by performing the following duties personally or through departmental supervisors. Manages and oversees organization safety inspections. Ensures the organization is complying with work safety standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES May be assigned other duties as required or needed

  • Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
  • Prepares studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
  • Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
  • Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Responsible for establishing, maintaining and directing a safety committee and meetings
  • Assists the HR department with Compiling and submitting accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Assists the HR department with the administration of workers\' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time.
  • Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.
  • In partnership with Engineering, assists in identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of professional engineering knowledge, skill and abilities
  • In partnership with Engineering, advises on structural/equipment safety requirements based on failure mode analysis of such factors as fatigue, stability, stress, concentration and creep
  • In partnership with Engineering, designs protective equipment or safety devices for machines and redesign machines and plant equipment to eliminate occupational hazards; and/or review proposed occupational safety policies, guidelines and standards to determine their consistency with accepted engineering principles and practices and recommend technical changes as needed
  • In partnership with Engineering, applies assists in the design of safety features and controls, compensating for the possibility of human errors in the operation of machinery and equipment
  • Maintains safety files and records.
  • Conducts needs analysis studies and confers with managers and supervisors to determine training needs.
  • Formulates training policies, programs, and schedules, based on knowledge of identified training needs, company production processes, business systems, or changes in products, procedures, or services.
  • Selects appropriate instructional procedures or methods such as individual training, group instruction, self-study, lectures, demonstrations, simulation exercises, role play, and computer-based training.
  • Organizes and develops training manuals, reference library, testing and evalua ion procedures, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
  • Trains assigned instructors and supervisory personnel in effective techniques for training, such as new employees\' orientation, on-the-job training, sales techniques, health and safety practices, management development, and adaptations to changes in policies, procedures, and technologies.
  • Researches and selects outside consultants and trainers to conduct training in specific topics.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Bachelor\'s degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related field or a minimum of 5 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety management. Strong computer skills with office applications
