The Human Resources Director provides leadership and oversight for HR activities in the Field. This position manages a team of HR Managers (HRMs) who are responsible for an assigned geographic region of the U.S. and in some cases the work of HR Coordinators (HRCs) or HR Generalists (HRGs). This position also has the responsibility of developing and maintaining strong relationships and connections with sales and operations leaders in their AOR. The HRD is responsible for cultivating, collaborating, and strategizing with Operations and Sales leaders on strategic initiatives, projects, and identifying opportunities for efficiencies within the organization.

The Human Resources Director must have excellent people leadership skills, strong business acumen, excellent employee relations skills, expertise in technology and systems preferably in Workday, highly-refined decision-making skills, demonstrated ability to implement change and the leadership skills necessary to direct managers and staff to meet goals and represent the HR function to their assigned AOR (Areas of Responsibility). Must be a strong business partner to leaders, strategizing and identifying trends, business needs, recruiting opportunities, etc.

The Director must reside and office within the assigned HR Region (California). The HR Director will report directly to the Director of Field Human Resources.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work in partnership with field leadership to identify and integrate HR practices that accomplish company, Field and HR business goals and objectives.

  • Knowledge and experience in employment law, benefits administration, recruitment, organization development, union negotiations, employee relations, and training. Experience in California is required.

  • Provide leadership and hands-on support for identification and development of field leaders; train management skills and business acumen, develop coaching/mentoring programs, facilitate formal activities, and assist with succession planning.

  • Lead a team of HR professionals including: direct and monitor work; appraise performance; reward and motivate team members; address and resolve problems.

  • Lead Shared Responsibility Teams (SRTs) that are aligned with the Company, Territory, Market initiatives which will support the achievement of targets and initiatives.

  • Work closely with Director of Field Human Resources on executing deployment and engagement of HR teams on initiatives such as Great Place to Work and Succession Planning.

  • Build strong relationships with Corporate Human Resources to develop and implement strategic and tactical initiatives that support corporate and market strategic goals and objectives.

  • Support Field leaders on all employee matters including performance management, coaching and development, disciplinary action, compensation management, and facilitating supervisory, management and leadership skills training.

  • Champion technology by becoming proficient in company systems in order to teach and reinforce technology procedures in the field and identify and use metrics to support HR and field business plans.

  • Where applicable, implement the corporate labor relations strategy across geographic markets. Favorably manage the management-union activities and environment and actively participate in all contract negotiations, grievance and arbitration activities. Ensure management is well versed on all terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreements and work with management to correct practices that are inconsistent with contract language or federal and/or state laws.

  • Work closely with the Legal department as needed and oversee the regional adoption of state requirements regarding payroll to ensure accurate and timely submitted data; coordinate with HRMs and Legal to manage DOL inquiries, and mitigate unfavorable settlements through the implementation of corrective measures.

  • Integrate and align Inclusion & Diversity strategies through all HR practices and policies.

  • Communicate regularly with Director of Field Human Resources and Field Human Resources Manager’s including the use of scheduled WebEx calls.

  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the Director of Field Human Resources and VP-HR.

  • Periodic overnight travel required to attend meetings and make market visits. (approximately 25-35% travel)

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • BS / BA in Human Resources, Business or related field required. HR Certification preferred but not required.

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years in a significant HR management role, including responsibility for multiple staff members.

  • Experience in using skills in metrics and data.

  • Experience in performance management, succession planning and the use of feedback tools (360 and/or other assessments).

  • Experience integrating HR solutions with business results using data and metrics to articulate the outcomes.

  • Working knowledge of technology and systems including the Microsoft Office suite and Workday.

  • Solid understanding of laws and regulations impacting HR.

  • Leadership acumen necessary to direct managers and staff to meet goals and represent the HR function as a value-add to the organization.

Salary:

$122,600 - $182,400 Yearly
