Intermountain Health Trauma Program Nurse Manager in Wheat Ridge, Colorado

Job Description:

Monitors, coordinates, educates and promotes optimal trauma care in the context of Lutheran Medical Center's Trauma Program and services. Supervises Trauma Outreach Coordinators and Injury Prevention Coordinators to insure excellent trauma care.

· Additional Details: Previous trauma injury prevention coordinator experience preferred, 5 years minimum of critical care/trauma, emergency nursing experience, BSN required

This position will be primarily focused on outreach, injury prevention, and performance improvement.

  3. Supports the philosophy, policies, and procedures of Lutheran Medical Center.

  4. Clinical Practice

a. Functions as an expert practitioner who provides for the needs of trauma patients.

b. Serves as a role model of expert clinical nursing through advanced knowledge of nursing theory and specialized knowledge of trauma nursing.

c. Develops and reviews policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines pertaining to the care of trauma patients.

d. Collaborates with Trauma Medical Director and other health care professionals in providing continuity of care to trauma patients and families.

  1. Performance Improvement and Patient Safety

a. Executes and refines a performance improvement program utilizing objective data for analysis of trauma services to ensure efficient, quality trauma care and patient safety.

  1. Works closely with the Trauma Medical Director and other Trauma Services Quality staff to determine quality indicators and initiatives.

  2. Monitors trauma benchmarking data and clinical indicators. Reports findings to appropriate health team members.

  3. Participates in data analysis. Utilizes trauma data and literature based knowledge to modify aspects of the trauma program in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director.

  4. Leadership

a. Assists in formulating Trauma Program goals, policies, protocols, and guidelines utilizing best practice when appropriate.

b. Acts as the primary leader in developing best nursing practices for the trauma patient that are consistent with the overall program goals.

c. Communicates Trauma Program policies, protocols, guidelines, and goals to nursing and medical staff.

d. In partnership with the Trauma Medical Director and Lutheran Medical Center's hospital administration, takes a lead role in the investigation and resolution of problems and concerns in the area of trauma care.

e. Along with the Trauma Medical Director, coordinates the Trauma Multidisciplinary Committee; serves on hospital and/or nursing committees relevant to the role of Trauma Program Manager.

f. Coordinates resources and activities necessary to ensure that the Trauma Program meets regulatory and/or verification requirements.

g. Serves as a professional liaison/consultant for the Trauma Program with patients and families, prehospital providers, other trauma centers and tertiary centers, regional hospitals and clinics, community, and government agencies.

h. Actively participates in local, regional, state, and national trauma meetings.

i. Promotes a good working relationship among medical, nursing, clerical, and paramedic personnel. j. Works with the Public Relations and Marketing departments to promote Lutheran Medical Center Trauma Services.

  1. Coordination of Staff

a. Provides management of personnel within the Trauma Program to include Injury Prevention and Outreach Coordinator, and any other trauma-related roles.... remove "Trauma Registrars"

b. Coordinates overall direction of daily activities performed Trauma Program personnel, to include Injury Prevention and Outreach Coordinator, and all other trauma-related roles...

  1. Education a. Coordinates and collaborates nursing educational activities necessary to meet the objectives of the Trauma Program.

  2. Identifies learning needs of the nursing staff involved in trauma care.

  3. In conjunction with Professional Development, develops the overall plan of trauma related in-services and continuing education activities.

  4. Assists in the identification of physician education needs and works cooperatively with the Trauma Medical Director to coordinate educational opportunities in trauma care and the Trauma Program.

  5. Participates in professional outreach educational programs.

  6. Lead and coordinate public education and injury prevention programs in the community.

  7. Supports and demonstrates a customer service commitment to internal and external customers through adherence to Lutheran Medical Center's customer service standards and processes.

  8. Maintains competence through attendance at mandatory and other job-related educational opportunities.

  9. Obtains a minimum of 16 hours of trauma-related continuing education annually.

  10. Actively participates in Lutheran Medical Center's continuous quality improvement process through team membership, problem solving, and by supporting the hospital’s commitment to continuous quality improvement.

  11. All staff members are routinely educated and comprehend how applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures impact their job responsibilities and functions. Demonstrates action for issues of non-compliance.

  12. Creates an environment in which staff members feel safe in informing managers, directors, and or/compliance officers of suspected or actual unethical or unlawful business practices.

  13. Ensures self and staff members perform applicable job functions in accordance with hospital policies and procedures regarding business practices.

  14. Develops and manages short and long-term operating and capital budgets in a fiscally responsible manner.

  15. Assists in maintaining a safe environment of care by: actively participating in hospital and department safety education and training programs; performing position duties in a safe manner; reporting hazardous conditions or unsafe practices; abiding by all applicable safety policies and regulations; complying with national patient safety standards; and promoting a safe patient care environment.

Education

Required: BSN degree required on hire.

Preferred: MSN degree preferred

Certification

Required: current Colorado Registered Nurse licensure.

BLS certification required upon hire. ACLS certification required upon hire.

TNCC or Trauma Nurse Certification within one year of hire.

Preferred: Trauma Nurse Certification and/or other specialty certification within one year of hire.

Experience

Required: minimum of 3 years’ experience in trauma nursing required.

Preferred: management experience preferred.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$37.98 - $58.61
