U.S. Mint MAINTENANCE MECHANIC in West Point, New York

Summary This position is located at US Mint,West Point- MANUFACTURING DEPARTMENT. As a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, you will perform a variety of duties which include carpenter, mason, and cement finisher, sheet metal, plumber, roofer, painter, welding, electrical production, equipment service & repair, material handling equipment service and repair, pipefitting, and miscellaneous duties. Responsibilities As a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, you will: fabricate, repair and refinish a variety of wooden items, including furniture in the form of displays, tables, cabinets, book ends and antique furniture from all Mints. perform all aspects of accurate carpenter work as related to the construction, alteration, repair, and modification of facility related structures such as framework rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, concrete forms and rough furniture. be responsible for a wide variety of maintenance, repair, alteration and construction of exterior and interior surfaces of the facility and remote warehouse using concrete or cement block. Lay cement block, firebrick and refractory materials in the required pattern(s) for the construction and repair of walls and equipment using cement and reinforcing materials to distribute weight. be responsible for getting the work started and setting the pace; assuring that required materials are available; checking work in progress and upon completion to assure that procedures are followed and deadlines are met; assuring that safety, housekeeping and security regulations are followed; instructing new employees; equitably dispersing and coordinating all functions on every assigned task; maintaining appropriate records so that supervision and the following shift personnel are aware of the status of jobs in progress. Requirements Conditions of Employment All employees must wear face masks while on MINT property when required by CDC and Federal guidelines. A one-year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis, 5 days a week. Work schedules may vary and assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis. May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc. Pass a pre-employment physical examination. PHYSICAL EFFORT Work requires prolonged standing on concrete floors, stooping, bending, crouching and arm movement. Arm and hand movement are continuous and good hand and eye coordination are always required. Must frequently climb ladders and scaffolds. Works up to seventy-five feet above floor elevation, using a variety of elevation devices. These include telescoping platforms, construction scaffolding, and special scaffolding erected on site to suit field conditions. Performs heavy lifting up to 90 pounds.
