We are seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our podiatry orthopedic office. This role involves supporting back office functions in a medium to high volume practice. The ideal candidate will be responsible for patient intakes, vital checks, medication reconciliation, and preparing charts prior to patient visits. You will also assist in preparing orthopedic injections, patient rooms, and completing prior authorizations, as well as reviewing MRI reports, restocking supply closets, handling inventory, and triaging phone calls. Updating patient records and electronic medical records (EMR) using Athena is also required. There is an opportunity for cross-training in spine, pain management, and orthopedics.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient intakes and room loading.

  • Perform vital checks and medication reconciliation.

  • Prepare charts prior to patient visits.

  • Assist in preparing orthopedic injections for doctor administration.

  • Prepare patient rooms for visits.

  • Complete prior authorizations.

  • Review MRI reports.

  • Restock rooms and supply closets, complete inventory.

  • Triage phone calls for physician or patient inquiries.

  • Update patient records and electronic medical records (Athena).

  • Cross-train in spine, pain management, and orthopedics.

Essential Skills

  • Medical assisting

  • Patient care

  • 1 year of medical assistant experience

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from an accredited school

  • Experience with EMR systems (preferably Athena)

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Podiatry experience strongly preferred

  • Experience in a high volume office

  • Good bedside manner

  • Ability to manage time well in a high-volume setting

Work Environment

The work schedule is primarily Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with the possibility of staying until the last patient leaves, often around 5:30 PM or later. Office hours start at 8:00 AM, but some procedures or patient preparations begin as early as 7:30 AM. The weekly schedule will be provided in advance, and there is a rotation system to ensure fair distribution of longer days. Weekend hours are available on a volunteer basis. The role requires the ability to work in West Orange and Montclair offices, with occasional rotations to other sites. The office hosts 4-5 doctors per day, handling 40-130 patients daily. Ideal candidates will pair with doctors 1-1 where possible, based on volume.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00/hr.
