The Sr. Design Lead, Product & Packaging is responsible for translating our brand strategy and principles of innovation, creativity and exceptional consumer experience and delivering inspiring product design and primary packaging structures that marry distinctive modern aesthetic with thoughtful functional details. This role is a prolific ideation partner to the product and packaging development teams, and shepherds innovative ideas from concept to manufacturing. The right candidate has a working knowledge of packaging materials and delivery mechanisms, and manufacturing technologies and processes.

In addition to product design/primary packaging, the Sr. Design Lead, Product & Packaging also manages ideation, creative and prototype development for all accessory and gifting concepts, gifts with purchase and branded collateral. They help define and articulate the brand’s packaging design standards and are responsible for global consistency across markets and on-time and on-budget project delivery. The Sr. Design Lead, Product & Packaging is a self-starter with a keen understanding of the beauty industry from a consumer experience, and via marketing and merchandising lens.

WHAT YOU DO

Be fiercely focused on consumer experience and ideate innovative designs and solutions in the context of each category and use case

Collaborate on, and execute, creative briefs into 3D product design and packaging ideas that are clear, compelling, visually exciting, and highly considered from an experience standpoint

Conceptualize, illustrate, and communicate new product concepts through ideation sketching, 3D concept visualizations, photorealistic renderings, and structural prototypes both internally and externally

Work towards various timelines in a fast-paced environment, while delivering designs that are accurate and consistent

Partner closely with Packaging & Product Development teams on establishing feasibility and meeting manufacturability, performance, quality and cost objectives; support in the development of technical drawings and package specifications

Review proposed designs with the Creative Director and VP of Packaging, Sustainability, and Product Development Operations prior to presenting to the Founder & President

Drive the execution of product branding by developing and managing consistent product and packaging across core products, NPD, repackaging, and promotions

Attend trade shows, meet with packaging suppliers and research current trends, materials and innovation to create packaging that is unique, luxurious and compelling

Effectively present and communicate creative vision to the brand President and cross-functional teams

Own the translation of approved master creative compositions and lay outs into the various sizes and formats needed for products while maintaining the original creative intent and specs; effectively manage files to ensure accessibility for print specs

Liaises with the Production Artist to ensure artwork is delivered accurately and on-time

Establish standardization of package design workflow and create unified primary and secondary package design guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS

7+ years experience in industrial design, graphic design and packaging; BA in Design preferred

Passion for the beauty industry; experience in cosmetics packaging design and development

A refined taste level with expert 3D and 2D design and visualization skills

Ability to take direction from the Founder & President, Creative Director and VP of Packaging and provide multiple solutions

Driven and creative individual with experience developing innovative physical primary and secondary package designs in a fast-paced environment

A self-starter who is motivated to set and achieve goals and takes initiative within the workplace.

Demonstrate proficiency in understanding the entire packaging development lifecycle.

Understanding of various package materials (sustainable/non-sustainable), properties, and decoration techniques.

Proven track record with multiple packaging types where products have gone to market

Experience in creating presentations boards from materials to concepts.

Demonstrated ability to meet tight timelines, manage multiple projects and work productively with cross-functional teams.

Very strong organizational skills and well organized with strong problem-solving skills.

Strong verbal and written communication.

Advanced/Expert Apple computer skills in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, with a specialty within Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign; 3D design software, including CAD

Must be able to work from Corporate Office at least 60% of the time.

The expected base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000 per year. The exact base salary is determined by various factors including experience, skills, education, geographic location, and budget.

This position is also eligible for participation in the company discretionary bonus plan, based on personal performance and company results.
