Our mission-driven team is seeking an experienced Test Instrumentation and Control Engineer who is fueled by troubleshooting, problem-solving, continuous curiosity, a drive to understand our world, science/technology, and life itself, all for the benefit of humankind on Earth and beyond.

This position has multiple job openings (and may be filled at multiple levels).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support efforts to set-up, configure and maintain instrumentation and control systems for one or some of the following test capabilities: Thermal and TVAC chambers, Shock and Vibration tables, Shakers, EMI/EMC chambers, Pressure systems, Modal and Static Load assemblies, or other pieces of test equipment.

  • Configure, design, and build data acquisition systems and integrate them for test.

  • Read and interpret PI&D, mechanical and electrical diagrams and schematics, and general test requirements.

  • Troubleshoot test equipment instrumentation and control issues.

  • Design and build electrical diagrams and schematics for high and low voltage DC and AC systems required for testing and for facilities modifications/upgrades.

  • Develop technical specifications, Statements of Work (SOW) and track all phases of procurement, inspections, fabrication & installation into the facility and test systems.

  • Support configuring and configuration management of instrumentation and control systems associated to test facilities.

  • Collaborate with design engineers for Test Support Equipment development.

  • Develop software for PLCs or DAQs.

  • Work with engineers, test directors, technicians and customers for test preparation and execution and facility readiness.

  • Perform Job Hazard Analysis.

  • Lead initiatives to help define test workflows, documentation, processes, and procedures.

  • Adhere to appropriate safety, quality, and environmental practices, as well as business ethics practices.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, aerospace, electrical or related discipline).

  • Master’s Degree in a STEM field, preferred.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience related to instrumentation and control systems.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in engineering projects.

Experience

Experience in two or more of the following areas is strongly desired. Your application will be considered even if you do not have experience in all areas.

  • Setting-up and maintaining Data Acquisition Systems such as B&K, NI, Dewesoft, Siemens or similar.

  • Setting-up and maintaining instrumentation and control systems for any of the following: Thermal and TVAC chambers, Shock and Vibration tables, Shakers, EMI/EMC chambers, Pressure systems, Modal and Static Load assemblies, or other pieces of test equipment.

  • Programing control systems and PLCs such as Siemens, Mitsubishi or Allen Bradley

  • Working with electronic instrumentation, sensors (such as RTDs, thermocouples, accelerators, strain gauges, fiber optic), actuators (such as electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic) or mechanical test stands.

  • Programing DAQs using, for example, LabVIEW, MATLAB, Simatic, Dewesoft or similar.

  • Designing, managing, or using Scada systems.

  • Using multimeter, oscilloscope, signal generator, spectrum analyzer, programable power supplies, etc.

  • Designing, building and working with high and low voltage DC and AC systems.

  • Generating, reading, and interpreting PI&D, mechanical and electrical diagrams, and schematics.

  • Using 2D/3D modeling software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or Rhino.

  • Familiar with National Electric Code, ASHRAE, National Fire Protection Association, and International Building Code

  • Familiar with Government or commercial spaceflight programs.

  • Testing of space-related hardware (flight or non-flight) components or systems (preferred).

  • Project management - agile/scrum methodologies (preferred).

Essential Functions

Work Environment: Generally, the work will be split between the office and lab environment, but can involve outside work depending on the task.

Requirements

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

  • This position requires to be in-person in Houston, TX ( no remote or hybrid ).

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).

  • This job requires working with energized electrical and mechanical equipment.

  • Should be able to kneel, and go up and down ladders to work on equipment and machines.

  • Should be able to work with standard office equipment (laptop, printer, etc.)
