Overview
The Special Teams Operations Coordinator develops, coordinates, and delivers extremely high liability training to all DOC Special Teams. This position responds to critical incidents anywhere within the state and provides logistical support and assistance with major decision making to managers and commanders. This position maintains all Special Team members training records, training calendars, and develops and updates the Special Response Team core training curriculum. They are required to provide monthly and quarterly training reports, assistance with training at local sites, and provide training at the Vermont Correctional Academy. As a coordinator this position prepares notices of training events, solicit candidates for specific offerings, and screen applications. Arranges space and equipment for specific events, prepares notices, and maintains records of completed training. This position operates and executes daily duties with minimal supervision and is largely self-directed. This position requires extensive knowledge of adult learning theory principles, curriculum and lesson plan development, and instructional theory. Extensive travel is required to facilitate training at worksites across the state.
Environmental Factors
Duties are carried out in a variety of settings including standard office, classroom, facilities and an outdoor environment in all elements. Considerable travel is involved for which private means of transportation must be available. Position duties often require performance outside of normal work days and hours. Tight deadlines for organization and presentation of proposal and programs can occur. Strong and differing opinions may arise as to the nature, content, method of delivery, etc. of training programs, which should be positively channeled to achieve program enrichment. Changes in available funding may necessitate sudden program modifications.
