The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.

Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

The AEH (Airborne Electronic Hardware) Certification Engineer will lead the hardware certification efforts for certification planning as well as regulatory compliance oversight for assigned projects and products for all of Aviation Systems. Our Systems business comprises a wide cross section of aviation products which includes power generation, power distribution, navigation, cockpit displays, computing and networking, ignition systems, sensors, and propellers. We support civil and military customers worldwide and are leading the way in hybrid-electric aircraft technologies and open platform solutions. In this role, you will utilize your experience and expertise to achieve regulatory compliant solutions for products and systems. You’ll be a recognized expert within this specialized field, able to develop and execute objectives for self and others, using coaching and mentoring to do so.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead programs in determining product certification strategy and certification basis

  • Lead compliance planning and determination of means of compliance

  • Support / contribution to creation of cohesive project plans

  • Review of development artefacts, where applicable

  • Perform certification audit pre-assessments both of internal projects and external suppliers

  • Audit project / product artifacts and verification activities to assess compliance with the certification basis

  • Support to Customer AR / Regulatory Authority audits

  • Support and collaboration with Integrated Project Teams to resolve audit Findings/Actions/Observations

  • Support to / participation in industry working groups

  • Staff development, both within Certification and the wider engineering community, through technical guidance, coaching and mentoring of less experienced engineers

  • Develop and implement training modules as necessary

  • Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project

Required Qualifications

  • Significant design experience/knowledge with ASIC, FPGA, CPLD technologies

  • Minimum of 5 years working with regulatory compliance related to Advisory Circular 20-152 and RTCA/DO-254

  • Experience of demonstrating compliance to certification regulations

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) or equivalent knowledge and experience
