Class Summary

Job Description

This Senior PR Specialist will support the Police Department's communication needs by collaborating with a team of graphic and web designers, video producers, and other public relations professionals to ensure understanding and execution. This position will also provide guidance and expert advice to managers within Communications, clients within the Police Department, and peers on public relations strategy, including campaigns and special events.

Essential Duties

  • Developing strategies for communicating important messages from Gwinnett Police to residents, businesses, and other stakeholders

  • Researching, writing, and preparing content for social media pages, websites, presentations, marketing materials, speeches, newsletters, video scripts, and correspondence

  • Reviewing work for errors before printing or publishing

  • Accepting and providing constructive criticism and resolving conflicts

  • Conceptualizing and collaborating on the creation of print and electronic materials (newsletters, flyers, brochures, and graphics)

  • Managing and maintaining branding and style standards (content, font, image, and logo usage)

  • Coordinating special projects and special events

  • Assisting with media relations, including developing news releases, facilitating information requests, and conducting on-camera interviews

  • Keeping current on new communications tools and tactics, and seeking new opportunities to reach target audiences

    Public Speaking Duties

  • Leading meetings with client departments

  • Explaining job duties to youth and adults during outreach programs

    Grade

The grade for this position is 101. Salary will be dependent on education and experience.

Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field

  • Four years of experience developing and publicizing community programs

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.

  • Valid driver's license

Each department is run by a director who is charged with managing operations in a manner which stresses the County’s values.

These external offices are created by the Georgia Constitution or through state law.
