Red Hat Principal Software Engineer in Raleigh, North Carolina

Primary job responsibilities

  • Coordinating architecture and dependencies with other teams in a broad technical context, and demonstrates an understanding of the consequences of technological choices.

  • Holds a leadership position in upstream or across a group of internally focused projects typically a strategic owner, frequently defining direction of the project in matters of architecture, technology decisions, CI setup, etc

  • Leads a cross-functional team to consistent and timely execution of plans

  • Identifies opportunities spanning multiple technical disciplines, including important emerging technology projects, and leads in analysis of their impact. Conceives and is instrumental in creating new projects or programs

  • Enabling large scale customer success by way of producing detailed architectural specifications and/or detailed project/feature proposals.

  • Capable of successfully tackling projects and initiatives that can have company-wide scope. Applies technical excellence and leadership across engineering, business units, and the industry

  • Proven ability in planning and execution of comprehensive product plans and architecture designs along with coordination of cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrate Creative and innovative approach in the technical domain to address customer needs, challenges and priorities into feature requests and bug fixes that conclusively accelerate OpenShift adoption.

  • Ability to act as a technology representative at various customer briefings, conferences, forums etc. Demonstrates strong business & technology acumen and collaboratively works with Sales, Field, BU and Engineering teams across various initiatives.

  • Experience as a product architect , technical leader to handle aspects such as functionality, performance, resilience, reuse, comprehensibility, scalability, security, technology constraints, and tradeoffs.

  • Expertise to define a high-level structure of a software system (architecture), its main components and their interfaces; interactions of these components with each other and with external systems.

  • Follow the Kubernetes community and proactively lead the implementation of important improvements from the project in our product

  • Experience to act as a trusted advisor for key product customers

  • Technical knowledge dissemination through practices like mentoring, tech talks to fellow team members.

Required skills

  • Architectural mindset and expertise in architecting and designing new systems keeping in mind the customers and product experience

  • Proven ability to have worked with cross team / product teams addressing customer needs and challenges.

  • Expertise in at least one or more programming languages such as Go/Python/Java etc.

  • Good experience with kubernetes

  • Hands-on learning and mid to senior level experience demonstrating implementation ownership of complex features individually and as a collaboration with others.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience of working with customers and helping them in their transformation journey as product advocate would be advantageous

  • Familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CoreOS, Fedora or Red Hat OpenShift.

  • Understanding of open source development models

  • Prior participation in open source community software development or leadership

  • Familiarity with enterprise application development

  • Familiar with test-based development and agile or scrum methodologies

  • Familiar with various observability tools: monitoring, logging, profiling, etc.

  • Running applications on OpenShift

  • Data-driven Story teller.

The salary range for this position is $142,140.00 - $234,500.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Pay Transparency

Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
