About the Position

Under the Plan of Care established by the evaluating Physical Therapist, renders Physical Therapy treatments to improve resident’s functional abilities, safety level, reduce pain, and improve quality of life.

Schedule : Monday-Friday 9am-5pm

Job Duties

  • Provides Physical Therapy treatments to overcome specific losses of function due to disease and injury, under a Physical Therapist’s Plan of Care, and as dictated by the Commonwealth of Virginia Physical Therapy Practice Act.

  • Effectively communicates with the Physical Therapist to clarify the Plan of Care, relay resident’s progress with treatment, report any adverse effects of treatment, report medical decline or inability to follow through with recommended treatments, and offers suggestions to alter and progress the Plan of Care based on knowledge and experience with that particular resident.

  • Documents treatments/services according to the Rehab Department’s protocols and Medicare guidelines.

  • Coordinates resident’s treatment with nursing staff, occupational and speech therapists.

  • Reports changes in the resident’s medical status to the charge nurse for communication with the Physician.

  • Participates in care plan meetings and discharge planning.

  • Maintains accurate billing records of treatment minutes for PPS billing, units and treatment codes for Medicare B billing, and per facility protocol for Managed Care clients.

  • Completes daily treatment times in AOD system and on interdisciplinary schedule on common server the day before the treatment day, so that treatment is coordinated with nursing and other therapies.

  • Attends facility mandatory in-services, maintains 100% compliance with data based mandatory training

  • Provides in-services as assigned by the Director of Rehab to nursing staff to improve coordination of services and improve competency of nursing staff with restorative nursing procedures.

  • Communicates initiation of Restorative Nursing Programs to Staff Development Coordinator per established facility protocol. Trains floor nursing staff in resident specific programs.

  • Participates with other rehab staff members in assuring that the Rehab Department is a clean, safe and friendly environment to work.

  • Maintains privacy and confidentiality with resident information at all times

Job Requirements

  • Graduate of an APTA approved LPTA program, or possessing comparable skills

  • Current Licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia

  • CPR certified (adult only)

  • Possess the ability to deal tactfully and compassionately with residents, family members, and caregivers.

  • Have the ability to motivate residents to participate as fully as possible in their rehabilitation programs.

  • Professional dress, demeanor and presentation.

  • May be required to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, and etc. up to 25 lbs. throughout the workday, getting assistance when needed is a must!

  • Be enthusiastic, willing to learn and adaptable to the changing healthcare work environment.
