NuScale Power Manager, NSSS Component Engineering Design in United States

POSITION SUMMARY: The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Component Engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. The NSSS Component Engineering Design Manager leads a team of engineers responsible for the design of NSSS reactor pressure vessel, containment vessel, reactor vessel internals, and primary equipment supports with a focus on Design Specification and Drawing generation in accordance with Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages a team of professionals and provides assistance and mentoring on technical work.

  • Leads peer reviews and technical audits to ensure conformance to requirements.

  • Prepares and reviews engineering specifications, drawings, reports and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of systems, structures and components associated with the nuclear steam supply system.

  • Provides technical and advisory assistance to other projects and offices.

  • Participates in developing and updating company technical standards and practices.

  • Prepares estimates, schedules, man-hour, manpower, and material forecasts.

  • Understands and applies sound approaches and standards for solving technical problems in applicable discipline, and leads cross ‐ functional projects within areas of responsibility.

  • Performs administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving timecards, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.

  • Develops technical statements of work.

  • Evaluates performance, administers coaching, and conducts annual performance reviews.

  • Develops training materials in areas of subject matter expertise.

  • Develops team members’ capabilities in support of individual career goals and team objectives.

  • Interfaces and coordinates with internal and external clients as required for successful project execution.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering is required . A professional engineer license registration and an advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.

  • Experience: A minimum of eight years of full-time, progressively responsible engineering experience required. Lead and/or managerial experience preferred. Additional required skills and experience include:

  • Strong communication, presentation , and interpersonal skills. Strong organization skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases. Strong technical writing skills.

  • U nderstanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theories for design related activities for NSSS components utilizing Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (e.g., drawing generation, tolerance stack-ups, design specifications, etc.) .

  • Proven track record of leading staff from multiple disciplines and coordinating design interfaces to provide design solutions in a timely manner.

  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

    The target pay range for this position is $144,055 - $173,859 annually. The full pay range is $129,152 - $202,008.
