About the role

The Project Engineer is assigned by Southco to lead the team responsible for achieving the project objectives, through the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to the project activities to meet the individual project and business requirements.This includes the program requirements identification, selection and acquisition of support services (New Product Development and SBU team assignment, tooling, customers and so on). The Project Engineer needs to support the project feasibility checks (strategic, commercial, technical) and has full project responsibility from the project award or nomination to production sign off (PSW). This will involve close networking with and co-ordination of the NPD and SBU teams within Southco facilites both local and global, the sales team and external suppliers. Throughout the development process the Project Engineer leads and supports the team to ensure that the project budget, timelines and product specifications are met. The Project Engineer is also required to control and drive continual improvement of cost (and price via BDM) to achieve margin goals.

1. Project Development: Support direct and indirect team members and be aligned with Key Account Managers in customer focused meetings. Proficient in MS Office and all relevant Southcos internal systems. Have clear and competent ability to run an APQP style program and support KAM with SOW's, Warranty conditions, tooling quotes and associated technical needs that are designed into targeted programs (feasibility check), ensure that customer requirements are "translated" and fed back into the organization (incl. commercial and technical requirements). 30%

2. Develop and maintain Workfront and the open project list as a visible communication and management tool. Generate weekly engineering projects reports and conduct Weekly engineering review meetings with the project teams and stakeholders where required. Establish and develop realistic and achievable business goals for each assigned Project and formally review their performance on ongoing basis. 30%

3. Must work in line with Southco’s project guidelines and meet each SBU’s strategic goals and objectives, assessing the commercial and manufacturing viability of projects, and working closely with the sales team. Ensure specification is met as per the agreed customer requirements. 10%

4. Liaise closely with New Product Development team and Supply Chain Management, where appropriate, to maintain regular communications with sub contractors and tool makers as necessary. Maintain the timing and tracking process to provide regular updates for cost, timing, quality and other project key measurables. 10%

5. Kick off project management process to ensure that work on the identified projects establish project budget (engineering hours, tooling budget, piece cost budget, project management hours) together with Engineering Manager & BDM. Recommend piece price/tooling cost to BDM / Key Account Manager for further review, ensure cost targets, quality requirements and timelines are met with the lowest possible manpower and cost effort 10%

6. Maintain and develop current processes, with a focus on Lessons Learnt and continuous improvement, and work closely with the extended Project Management team 10%

About you

1. Engineering University Degree required

2. Must have excellent English communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal Skills.

3. Must have strong project engineering experience (3+ Years) in manufacturing Industry (automotive preferred)

4. Working Knowledge of MS Projects is prefered

5. Understanding of quality system IATF 16949 prefered

   2. Customer Focused Very important to arrange all project activities around the customer requirements (customer in the centre of all activities), customer timelines, quality requirements and cost goals. All are mandatory requirements, which should be challenged, but not ignored. - 5

   3. Planning & Organisation Planning & Organisation skills are very much needed to assure efficient processes, procedures and project timing. - 4

   4. Results oriented Southco SBU’s have to meet aggressive growth goals to achieve the critical mass that is important for the overall Southco business. Striving for a 100% hit rate on acquired projects (formal) is essential to utilise resources most efficient. - 4

   5. Communication/ Influence/Able to work in a cross functional team Crucial for the success of the projects and project teams. Work is done in a cross function matrix structure where team members (mostly) do not report straight line back to PM or SBU.- 5
