DBVI provides and contracts for comprehensive services throughout the lifespan to people who are blind and visually impaired. Services including vocational rehabilitation, orientation and mobility, independent living services, Business Enterprise Program, education and transition services.

The DBVI Assistant Director directly manages and oversees all aspects of program operations. The DBVI Assistant Director implements program policies and initiatives in support of the overall agency mission and ensures high quality services for clients.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Make operational and policy decisions in conjunction with the DBVI Director.

  • Represent DBVI professionally on designated workgroups and in public settings.

  • Manage and direct the work of DBVI related to State Agencies and Community Based Organizations.

  • Monitor program data to ensure compliance with federal regulations and benchmarks.

  • Assumes the Director's duties during the Director's absence to provide continuity of operations.

  • Manage contracts

  • Make decisions in conjunction with the Director on budgets and program management.

  • Supervise and manage direct service and administrative staff

Skills or knowledge required:

  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations applicable to and administered by the agency.

  • Knowledge of Bureau policies, goals and objectives

  • Knowledge of the legislative process

  • Knowledge of casework theory and management

  • Knowledge of program management and administration practices and principles

  • Knowledge of budgetary management theories and principles

  • Knowledge of grant and contract procedures and best practices in technical writing

  • Knowledge of employment resources and practices

  • Knowledge of training needs and resources

  • Ability to plan, direct and coordinate multiple diverse programs, staff, and activities

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Minimum qualifications:

Experience in running programs for and serving individuals who are blind and visually impaired.
