The water operator will be required to maintain records, adjust chemical dosages, analyze water quality through testing and appearance. They will also need to do routine and general maintenance of building, pumps, generator, monitoring and chemical feed equipment. In general all work necessary to operate the water treatment plant.
The job also requires an operator to read and repair water meters and inform the customer if there is a problem such as a leaking toilet.
The water operator will also need to maintain the distribution system which can include locating water pipes, fixing curb stops or fixing small service line leaks or major water main breaks. Water main breaks need to be fixed as soon as they are discovered.
The job requires a class 4c operators certification and any hired employee will need to be able to obtain one within 3 years.
An operator will be required to do any other duties as assigned.
