We are seeking a dynamic and talented bilingual communications specialist (State Title: Staff Assistant) to join our university communications office. The ideal candidate will be fluent in both written and spoken Spanish, with exceptional writing skills and a background in media relations. The successful candidate will be required to prove fluency in Spanish, demonstrating proficiency in both verbal and written communication. This individual will play a key role in developing and implementing communication strategies to engage Spanish-speaking audiences and raise the university's public profile locally, nationally, and internationally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create compelling written content in English and Spanish for various platforms, including social media, press releases, articles, and the university's news pages.

  • Cultivate relationships with Spanish-language media outlets and pitch stories to secure coverage.

  • Assist in developing and executing communication plans targeting Spanish-speaking communities.

  • Translate and/or adapt university communications, press releases, and other communications-related materials into Spanish, ensuring messaging accuracy, consistency, and cultural sensitivity.

  • Monitor media coverage and social media engagement, providing regular reports and analysis.

  • Stay informed of industry trends and best practices to continuously improve communication strategies.

  • Support Office of Communications activities, including commencements and conferences.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.

  • A minimum of 2 years communications/public relations experience.

  • Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English.

  • Strong understanding of cultural nuances and the ability to adapt messaging accordingly.

  • Experience writing, editing, and creating content, preferably in a communications role.

  • Knowledge of media relations practices and experience working with media outlets.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.

  • Creativity, adaptability, and strict attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior knowledge of and experience working with bilingual and emergent bilingual populations.

  • Prior experience working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Special Information:

  • The successful candidate must complete and pass an online Spanish language proficiency test prior to an official offer of employment.

  • Some statewide travel and evening and weekend work is required.

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule during peak periods.

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

    Additional Information:

Rank/Salary: SL2 - $57,000-$60,000, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
