Position Scope

As a Mechanical Engineer, you are responsible for the delivery of mechanical engineering documents and additional objectives as defined by your management chain. You will support the technology development work at Carbon Engineering’s Innovation Center by supporting asset integrity of the plant, leading or supporting the design and construction of small projects, and assisting operators during startup. You may also be tasked to support billion-dollar commercial projects around the world by reviewing deliverables from sub-contractors, and participating in design reviews. You must be comfortable in an environment where you work independently or with a team of engineers towards multiple deadlines on multiple projects with minimum supervision. Working from the office, home, and traveling to engage with customers, and partners to oversee their work is expected.

Expect to be on-site in Squamish, BC at least 3 days/week and more frequently during commissioning/testing periods.

Responsibilities

  • Support asset integrity at the Carbon Engineering Innovation Center by providing mechanical engineering expertise in the fields of static equipment, corrosion, and erosion.

  • Support the engineering teams, clients, and sub-contractors during FEL (Front End Loading), Detailed Design, Construction, and Commissioning.

  • Support projects through to completion by developing and reviewing mechanical engineering deliverables such as Equipment Specs/Datasheets, Isometrics, Arrangement drawings, Vendor Bid comparisons, Material selection.

  • Support the commissioning of projects you helped engineer by conducting site reviews and inspections.

  • Collaborate with Production Engineers at the demonstration plant to troubleshoot equipment, develop modifications, and engineer those modifications.

  • Interface with the in-house Engineering and Technology teams, external engineering partners, and vendors/fabricators.

  • Present technical information, concepts, or study results to project stakeholders.

  • Interest in development of new technologies and products.

  • Collaborate with Production Engineers at the demonstration plant to ensure the data needed to support the designs of engineering projects is being collected.

  • Abide by the standards and policies of Carbon Engineering and the projects you are assigned.

  • Foster and maintain a positive culture within the Engineering Team; a questioning mindset and recognize failure as a learning opportunity.

  • Mentor, support, and guide junior engineers in their professional development to ensure they develop both the technical understanding and personal fit needed to excel in their position.

    Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

    Experience:

  • P.Eng registered or able to register as a P.Eng with EGBC within 3 months – and stamp engineering documents.

  • 4 to 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering, chemical plant projects, or chemical plant operation

    Key Competencies

  • Strong understanding of core engineering principles (thermodynamics, heat & mass transfer, fluid dynamics, mechanics of materials)

  • Experience in the field of materials engineering as it is applied to chemical or oil & gas plants (corrosion/erosion studies, asset integrity of static equipment, materials selection)

  • Experience producing typical mechanical engineering deliverables (Equipment Datasheets, Isometrics, Vessel Design details, Arrangement drawings, Piping specifications)

  • Familiarity with key process plant documents such as (PFDs, P&IDs, Control Philosophy)

  • Experience with Cooling towers, Absorber columns, Crystallizers, Fluidized beds, Filters, Centrifuges, Combustion systems, Slurry Handling, Solid Handling, or Caustic handling is a plus

  • Experience with CO2 capture technologies, or in a start-up environment a plus

  • Experience leading projects and Project Management experience is a plus

    Offers and Benefits

Carbon Engineering offers a competitive compensation package including extended health benefits. Base Salary for an Intermediate to Advanced level role is $81,090 to $122,000 with additional bonus pay.
