JOB SUMMARY:
The Food Service Worker supports the Dietary Department by ensuring timely and efficient cafeteria operations. Responsibilities include food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, ensuring food presentation standards, restocking supplies, and managing cash transactions. This role also involves assisting with patient meal delivery and adhering to kitchen sanitation and safety guidelines. Non-exempt position. Reports directly to the Food Services Supervisor and indirectly to the Support Services Director.

Cafeteria Operations:
- Set up and clean the cafeteria at the beginning and end of each day.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked cafeteria line during service hours.
- Post daily menus and ensure accurate menu presentation.
Food Preparation and Service:
- Prepare and plate food items for cafeteria service, including salads, sandwiches, desserts, and nourishments.
- Take food temperatures, taste test items, and ensure food readiness before service begins.
Sanitation and Cleanliness:
- Follow standardized cleaning, safety, and sanitation procedures, including the "clean-as-you-go" philosophy.
- Dispose of trash and recyclables appropriately and maintain clean trash cans throughout all areas.
- Refill and clean beverage machines and maintain cleanliness in the doctors lounge and registration area.
Stocking and Inventory:
- Store and stock food and supplies in appropriate areas, ensuring par levels are maintained.
- Restock grab-and-go items and beverages during service hours.
- Maintain food inventory and cleanliness in the doctors lounge.
Cash Management:
- Operate the cash register during shifts and ensure cash drawer balances are maintained.
- Follow established register procedures and end-of-shift reporting protocols.
Patient Support:
- Assist with delivering and picking up food carts to and from patient care units at designated times.
Special Tasks:
- Perform special cleaning duties as assigned by the Dietary Manager.
- Ensure coffee machines in the doctors lounge and registration area are clean and operational.
Schedule Requirements:
- This position typically requires working a flexible schedule, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on department needs.
Qualifications:
Education: Highschool diploma or GED preferred.
Experience: Prior experience in healthcare or institutional food preparation preferred.
Certification: Food Handlers Certification required within 30 days of hire required.
Skills:
- Effective verbal and written communication in English (additional languages preferred).
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
