Accountancy
The Department of Accountancy in the Gies College of Business is a unit that serves the accounting profession and the community by providing global leadership in the accountancy discipline.
Job Summary
Responsible for the creation and implementation of plans and events to support all phases of the Accountancy student experience from recruitment and entry through graduation. Work with Accountancy directors and team members to deliver quality curricular and co-curricular experiences that meet the needs of the programs and its students.
Duties & Responsibilities
Academic Services
- Lead the Accountancy Opportunities program and similar enrichment programs designed to improve program admissions and student engagement.
- Support students accepted into Accountancy Opportunities and similar enrichment programs by serving as their primary contact and resource.
- Serve as staff lead and co-instructor for the Academy of Accounting Excellence and Innovation (AAEI), which supports Accountancy Opportunities students and students admitted to graduate accountancy programs through other partnerships and enrichment programs. Includes course setup, student enrollment and onboarding, monitoring completion of assignments and supervising course teaching assistant.
- Support students in their application and preparation for the Uniform CPA exam, including, but not limited to, overseeing CPA study nights, scheduling CPA faculty coaches, serving as liaison with the Illinois Board of Examiners (ILBOE) on related matters, and developing and administering a CPA pass rate survey to alumni.
- Collaborate with associated registered student organizations where appropriate.
Communication & Experience Planning
- Design and implement communication plan targeting BSA, Gies undeclared, and other potential students to promote the wide variety of careers available in accountancy as well as the benefits of the graduate education provided in the Graduate Accountancy Programs.
- Serve as the department lead on Gies Groups and all social media efforts, ensuring accuracy of information posted and that events are promoted in a cohesive way amongst all channels.
- Lead the planning and execution of all accountancy student-focused events including, but not limited to, orientation, information sessions, and social events, which may include some night and evening work.
- Coordinate experiential learning and professional development activities for accountancy students, including programs in conjunction with other Gies business units.
- Coordinate with the Gies Office of Advancement to manage alumni relations for BSA and MAS programs by overseeing alumni database, creating contact forms, collecting testimonials, and connecting with potential speakers.
- Coordinate and manage the MAS Student Ambassador program designed to improve the BSA and MAS student experience.
- Organize weeklong summer program for high school students with partner organizations.
- Distribute and manage BSA and MAS exit surveys.
- Distribute and manage ad-hoc surveys to BSA and MAS students as needed to solicit student feedback or gauge interest in new and current courses, events, and other relevant experiences.
Recruiting
- Lead and manage the recruitment, application, and admission processes for the Accountancy Opportunities program. Develop and nurture partnerships and initiatives that will enhance applicant pipeline to the program.
- Work closely with the recruiting and admissions team to help develo recruiting strategies, initiatives, schedules, events, and materials to recruit students to the Graduate Accountancy Programs.
- Serve as a contact to current Gies College of Business students who are considering the MAS program to help recruit more students into the program.
Misc.
- Hire and oversee student workers where appropriate.
- Other duties as deemed appropriate by Accountancy leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
Specialty Factors
- Bachelor\'s degree.
- A total of two (2) years (24months) in a professional or higher education.
- Demonstrated experience building relationships with diverse populations (e.g., students, customers, partners).
- Demonstrated experience with event planning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master\'s degree preferred
- Demonstrated experience with survey tools.
- Demonstrated experience with social media platforms.
- Experience in academic advising or recruiting, overseeing the student experience for a university academic program, administering and assessing programs, or significantly related professional experience.
- Proficient with advising or admissions related technologies.
