Job Title: School Social Worker Location: Northern Potter School District Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Principal/Director of Student Services
Terms of Employment:
- 200 Days Per Year
- Salary, work schedule, and other conditions of employment in accordance with school district salary schedule, applicable policies, and bargaining unit agreement.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the applicable policies of the school district.
Job Summary: The School Social Worker is responsible for supporting the social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of students by providing counseling, interventions, and resources to promote academic and personal success. This position collaborates with teachers, parents, administrators, and community organizations to create a supportive school environment and address barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counseling to students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
- Conduct assessments to identify students' needs and develop intervention plans.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to create supportive strategies for student success.
- Develop and implement programs that promote social and emotional learning, bullying prevention, and positive behavior.
- Address issues such as absenteeism, family crises, homelessness, and child welfare concerns.
- Provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution support as needed, as well as professional development.
- Advocate for students' needs within the school system and coordinate Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan support when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and confidential case records and documentation in compliance with school and legal requirements.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams, staff meetings, SAP and professional development opportunities.
- Assist school personnel in developing procedures to handle crises and provide in-service training on these procedures.
- Provide professional development and parent/community trainings.
- Make regular home visits to provide information to parents about and facilitate the use of resources for meeting clothing, nutritional, housing, and health needs.
- Connect students and families with community resources, including mental health services and social assistance programs.

``` - Serve as a liaison between the school, home, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to student support. - Refer families to appropriate community resources for social and health services and assist in their effective use. - Other duties assigned by Administration.
Qualifications:
- Pennsylvania State Certification as a licensed social worker.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, and families in a school or similar setting.
- Maintain clearances and any training that is required by state and federal laws.
- Maintain Act 48 requirements.
- Knowledge of counseling techniques, social-emotional learning strategies, and crisis intervention methods.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, school staff, and community organizations.
- Familiarity with special education laws, child we fare policies, and community resources.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a School Social Worker.
- Training in trauma-informed care and restorative justice practices.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a school setting with regular interactions with students, staff, and families.
May require home visits, community outreach, and participation in after-school programs or meetings.
