Job Summary:

The Systems Effectors: Processing, Guidance & Control Center is responsible for algorithm development including Guidance, Navigation, and Control; radio frequency (RF) and electro-optical/infrared (EO-IR) Signal Processing; and missile-and-sensor-level Modeling and Simulation for Raytheon's broad portfolio of projects, programs and products. In the GNC department, we design, integrate, and optimize guidance, navigation, state estimation, and control algorithms to meet mission objectives. We support new business initiatives and help develop & execute technology roadmaps.

The Flight Sciences department, within GNC, is looking for a Senior Principal Engineer to perform in the role of Aerodynamics Team Lead. This individual will provide technical, budget, and schedule oversight for wind tunnel testing, computational fluid dynamics, aerodynamic modeling, and staging solution design and analysis for a hypersonic missile system.

This position is located at our Tucson, AZ location. This position is an onsite role.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • The Aerodynamics Team Lead will provide oversight and guidance to a team of aerodynamic engineers covering all aerodynamic work for a hypersonics missile development program.

  • You will be responsible for the technical, cost, and schedule execution of the aerodynamics work scope.

  • You will be responsible for the technical quality of deliverables provided by the by the aerodynamics team.

  • You will work with the Integrated Hypersonic Analysis Lead and the Office of the Chief Engineer to help define priorities and approaches that provide the best balance of cost, schedule, and technical risk.

  • You will communicate status, accomplishments, issues, and required support to program leadership.

  • You will interact with the Program’s U.S. government customer counterparts.

  • You will provide direction, oversight, and mentoring to team members.

  • You will collaborate across disciplines to ensure system effectiveness.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of aerodynamics experience with flight vehicles.

  • Experience with wind tunnel testing

  • Experience in hypersonic aerodynamic analysis, hypersonic trade studies, and/or hypersonic performance analysis.

  • Aerodynamic model development from empirical, CFD, and/or wind tunnel data sources

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with mentoring and/or leading small teams

  • Experience with high-speed staging systems design and analysis

  • Experience with hypersonic airframe design and environments

  • Knowledge of and experience with verification and validation techniques

  • Experience with schedule development and Earned Value Management System (EVMS)

  • Experience collaborating across disciplines to solve complex problems

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and government stakeholders

  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities

  • Master’s or PhD Degree in an Engineering discipline, Computer Science, Math or Physics

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
