Martis Camp Camp Counselor (Summer 2025) in Truckee, California

POSITION SUMMARY :  

If you're someone who absolutely loves working with kids and is ready to make this summer the best one yet, we want you on our team! Get ready for an unforgettable summer adventure as a Camp Counselor! You'll lead the charge in creating a positive and fun environment for our Summer Camp activities.  Your focus will be on the safety, fun, and development of a group of 6 to 10 campers, aged 4 to 15 , for  outdoor nature-based and interest-based specialty youth  camps .  But that's not all - you'll also be supporting all Family Barn operations, programs, activities, and special events.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :  

  • Love the outdoors, positive environments and kids!

  • Responsible for the general safety, development, growth, and skill achievement of campers

  • Encourage, engage and implement program curriculum, activities, and experiences.

  • Maintain a level of professionalism while encouraging fun, silliness, and a positive camp environment of inclusion for all campers.

  • Be a positive and engaging ambassador to the camp programs and barn team

  • Closely supervise children during all activities ,including lunch, field trips, and walking to and from event,s knowing where all members of your group are always

  • Meet and communicate with parents and guardians during check-in and check-out

  • Ensure the safety of the facility and equipment during your preparation for all activities

  • Ensure that all camp locations are clean and free of all trash before leaving for the day

  • Ensure that every child leaves with an authorized person as indicated by camper check-in and check-out forms provided

  • Be willing and prepared to help any outside vendor or instructor with their program

  • Report and document all emergency or injury situations to the Youth Programs Manager and/or  Family Activities Coordinator

  • Maintain constant and open communication with the Youth Programs Coordinator and the Family Activities  Coordinator, fellow counselors, and other ambassadors

  • Attend all trainings and  meetings

  • Provide support for all daily Family Barn operations

  • Performing other appropriate tasks as assigned, while maint aining professional composure

  • Be drug and alcohol-free while on property and during hours of employment

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Ability to interact and develop positive relationships within the organization.

  • Maintain high ethical and moral standards.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Fantastic interpersonal and guest service skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • CPR Certified preferred

  • 16 years old or older

  • Outdoor experience is a plus

  • Experiences working with children is a plus

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND LICENSES :

  • First Aid/CPR/AED preferred (course may be available upon hire)

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  (with or without accommodations)

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.

  •  Ability to sit for up to 3 hours at a time

  • Ability to be exposed to sun and other outdoor elements for up to 3 hours at a time

  •  Ability to walk and stand up to 3 hours at a time

  • Ability to run, jump, and swim

  •  Ability to safely bend, kneel, twist, grip, and carry as part of the above duties  

Wages: $21.50 - $23.50 per hour
