Collins Aerospace is seeking an experienced 3rd shift Senior Gage/Fixture Inspector. You will be responsible for setting, adjusting, calibrating, and maintaining gages and all equipment used for product and process inspection. You will also be responsible for performing complex and ultra-precision inspection on product items that are beyond the capability of employees and/or equipment assigned to perform in-process inspection. The job is usually performed in the Gage Room but may take place in any manufacturing area or other assigned area.

Onsite: This position will work onsite at our Troy, OH Landing Systems Headquarters. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

3rd Shift Sunday – Thursday 11:00p.m.- 7:00a.m.

What will you do:

  • Inspect new and reworked inspection and production tools and fixtures for conformity to blueprint requirements.

  • Inspect gages, fixtures and measuring equipment periodically for wear and calibration to established standards per written procedure. Maintain records including daily tape backup of gage calibration data files.

  • Set and adjust gages for specific inspection applications as required by floor inspectors and production personnel for product inspection.

  • Inspect setup or first production piece as instructed to approve new machine setups and new tapes where complex or restricted equipment or techniques are involved.

  • Inspect experimental or unique "model shop" items for conformity to blueprint and/or engineering requirements.

  • Perform Sample Approval inspections on complex characteristics of forgings, castings, and other materials and parts where dies, molds, or processes control product conformity to specifications.

  • Perform basic functional/teach programming of CMM's.

  • Report all inspections on appropriate forms or computer as required. Inform supervision of all abnormal situations.

  • Assist in the training of new G&F Inspectors.

  • Clean and maintain work areas, machines, auxiliary equipment and common ground in cell/area utilizing appropriate equipment, so as to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment. Check and maintain operating levels of fluids and required machine materials such as, but not limited to, rotoburr stones, coolant, filter paper, shot, etc. Move material between workstations and cells/areas as dictated by the manufacturing cell/area configuration and the nature of the part (by hand truck, hoist, robot assist, etc.).

  • Attend and participate in quality-related training activities and department meetings as provided by management to maintain or update skills necessary for proficient job performance.

  • Oil machines as needed utilizing appropriate tools.

  • Retrieve items from tool crib and complete forms/transactions as required.

  • Perform other QA oriented duties assigned by Supervision .

    Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Requires HS Diploma or GED

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

  • 1 year of experience performing mathematical calculations requiring addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division and pass pre-employment qualification tests.

  • 1 year of experience in utilizing both oral and written technical documents including but not limited to routings, blueprints, Engineering process specifications and written work instructions.

  • Near vision in one or both eyes corrected to 20/25 or better. Color vision test normal.

    Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment.

  • 1 year experience as inspector, or satisfactorily pass equivalency test.

  • 1 year of CNC (Machinist) experience.

    Physical requirements:

  • Wearing of all personal protective equipment as required.

  • In addition to the items subsumed in the job duties above, it should be noted that this position requires substantial reaching and moving while standing; lifting, up to 25 lbs.; twisting; stooping; and response to sounds associated to the work environment.
