The Senior Manager, Project Management and Governance plays a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of strategic projects within the Medicus Pension Plan. As part of the Medicus team, you’ll contribute to the financial peace of mind of physicians by ensuring effective communication about their retirement benefits.

As a Senior Manager, Project Management and Governance you will contribute to the overall success of the Medicus Pension Plan by overseeing the development, implementation and coordination of project management activities and governance processes. This position requires a deep understanding of project management principles, strong leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Plan, execute, and oversee the development of multiple projects and complex initiatives related to the Medicus Pension Plan and ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.

  • Collaborate with project teams, stakeholders, and external partners to facilitate alignment on project goals, to provide sound recommendations to senior leadership, and to achieve overall business objectives.

  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts, fostering effective communication and synergy across different departments.

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to project success and adjust strategies as needed.

  • Act as a liaison between project teams and senior leadership, providing clear and concise project status reports to steering committees and senior leadership to ensure that project outcomes contribute to the strategic vision of the organization.

  • Uphold the integrity of the governance framework by providing support to the Administrative Board and its committees as well as ensuring the successful delivery of meetings and an environment that promotes effective decision-making.

  • Coordinate the production of governance-related and other Board material, including collaboration with stakeholders across the Medicus Pension Plan to assess impacts of emerging trends and influence risk mitigation actions.

  • Ensure the maintenance of Plan records and compliance with Board policies and processes, governing documents, and applicable laws by developing internal controls for efficient monitoring and reporting on the governance of the Medicus Pension Plan, including Administrative Board activities, and to effectively manage issues related to governance risk, remediation, process, and internal control optimization for the Medicus Pension Plan.

  • Deliver pertinent information on governance and other related matters on a timely basis to senior leadership.

  • Continuously improve reporting efficiency and effectiveness using best practice processes and automation, where appropriate.

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Champions a high performance and inclusive work environment.

The Must Haves:

  • 5+ years of experience in a corporate governance setting, including experience directly supporting a Board and/or Board Committees, all while providing recommendations for process and procedure improvements to better serve the Board Directors, as needed.

  • Experience with pension plans is an asset.

  • Efficient, exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, creative, customer-focused and produces work accurately and with speed.

  • Strong analytical skills, and strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • PMP Certification

  • This role requires an understanding of Canadian corporate governance practices and procedures, experience with Canadian pension plan governance preferred.

  • Ability to work closely with internal stakeholders across the Medicus Pension Plan or other relevant business areas of the Bank as may be required, in order to ensure issues are properly handled and managed.

  • Understands, or will ascertain the implications of, legal, regulatory, and operational matters affecting the development, establishment and monitoring of governance issues.

  • Draws on support from internal departmental sources, and/or draw upon external counsel and other professionals, as required.

  • Identify issues, develop and implement recommendations, and exercise mature judgment in all dealings including internal audiences, as well as with external bodies such as auditors, regulatory authorities, agencies and examiners.
