What You'll Be Doing

This role as Senior Financial Analyst on the Retail, Commercial & Corporate Banking Controllership team is accountable for the integrity of the financial and management information used for reporting and business analysis. The position is accountable for the data integrity of the loan ledger, Deposits, investigate report discrepancies, oversee the completion of the month-end reconciliation process and support the team with ad-hoc requirements and project initiatives. In addition, as the team is responsible for closing the GL each month, the senior Financial Analyst will contribute to the month-end activities including journal entries, financial analysis, and other accounting related activities as required.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Problem solving – investigate and understand end to end processes beyond our team in order to identify gaps and recommend solutions that are optimal for the bank.

  • Manage monthly and quarterly close processes - including critical review of journal entries and financial results. Provide proactive communication of variances/issues such to minimize surprises during the GL close process. Ensure accounting is completed timely and accurately.

  • Technical skills – Knowledge of IFRS-9, CIBC’s accrual / Non-Refundable Loan fee policy, ACBS, excellent Excel and Essbase skills including knowledge of CIBC financial systems and applications used (SmartView, GLDM etc.). Good knowledge of financial / management accounting and related processes.

  • Communication skills – Good ability to prepare and present financial information effectively articulating issues/recommendations via your analysis and assessment of financial results and maintain a close working relationship with your business partners and Finance

  • Controls - Ensure Finance-owned SOX controls (including suspense accounts) are effective and performed on regular basis to identify/manage exposure to risks, escalating issues as appropriate.

  • Data analytics – support accounting transformation and analysis through use of modern data mining techniques and data analytics tool.

  • Continuous Improvement –mindset and sharing of ideas and opportunities, constantly looking for ways to improve the processes you own or contribute to.
