Purpose

The Director Project Management will lead and oversee our Retail and Digital Business division's project portfolio. As the Director, you will be responsible for developing and executing strategic initiatives, managing project teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of projects within scope, on time, and within budget. This role will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our retail and digital banking offerings.

What You’ll Do:

  • Project Leadership : Provide strategic direction and leadership to a team of project managers and cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with Scotiabank's business objectives and Retail Transformation.

  • Portfolio Management: Oversee the entire project portfolio within the Retail and Digital Business division, ensuring that projects are prioritized and resourced effectively to deliver maximum business value.

  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior leaders to define and drive the strategic roadmap for retail and digital initiatives, identifying key opportunities and potential risks.

  • Risk Management : Implement robust project management methodologies and processes to identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, ensuring successful project delivery.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including business leaders, technology teams, and external partners, to ensure alignment and transparency throughout project lifecycles.

  • Resource Management: Manage project budgets, resource allocation, and vendor relationships to optimize project outcomes while controlling costs.

  • Quality Assurance: Monitor and ensure the quality of project deliverables, adhering to industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

  • Continuous Improvement: Champion a culture of continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance project management practices and streamline processes.

  • Reporting and Documentation: Prepare and present regular project status reports and documentation to senior management, providing insights and recommendations for decision-making.

  • Talent Development: Mentor and develop project management professionals within the team, fostering a culture of growth and excellence.

  • Establish and maintain industry-leading standards for operational and business excellence, consistent and in keeping with industry best practices and Bank Standards (e.g. service standards, audit, compliance, regulatory, operational risk.

  • Ensure the necessary operating systems, policies, procedures, resources and structures are in place and are maintained to effectively achieve the standards for operational and business excellence. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vison/values/business strategy

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Project Management, or a related field; MBA or PMP certification is a plus.

  • Minimum of 10 years of project management experience, with a track record of successfully managing complex projects in the retail banking or digital business sector.

  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and inspire cross-functional teams.

  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Proven experience in strategic planning and portfolio management.

  • Sound understanding of retail banking products and digital banking technologies.

  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements in the financial industry.

  • Results-driven mindset with a focus on delivering business outcomes.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and changing environment

  • Fluent Spanish & English (oral and written).

Work Arrangement:

  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
