Wells Fargo VP, Lead Operational Risk Officer in TORONTO, Canada

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a VP, Lead Operational Risk Officer who is an experienced independent risk management professional within the second line of defense. The VP will have the mandate of implementing a consistent, collaborative, and sustainable approach to risk type oversight horizontally across the Americas Region (Canada and Latin America), applicable legal entities, and globally.

Reporting into the Americas Head of Operational Risk, you will be responsible for the ongoing execution of oversight routines and will work cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders and support partners within the region and globally.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor risk-based programs to identify, assess, and mitigate any operational risk that arises from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or external events

  • Maintain a balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency

  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, systems, and internal controls

  • Analyze extremely complex business and system changes to determine impact, identify operational risk issues and participate in the development of risk ratings

  • Provide operational risk expertise and consulting to complex business units for initiatives with high risk, generally spanning multiple business lines

  • Consult with the business to develop corrective action plans and effectively manage change

  • Review and challenge adequacy and efficiency of the front-line controls and associated metrics and measures; create reports and memos communicating oversight results

  • Report findings and develop business cases to influence executive management, management committee member or head of business on the need for controls to mitigate risk

  • Support responses to internal testing, audits, and regulatory exams

  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals with a 'one Wells Fargo' mindset

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Operational Risk experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with virtual and/or geographically dispersed teams

  • Experience in analyzing and reporting operational risk information from a legal entity and non-US horizontal perspective

  • Knowledge of Commercial Banking lines of business, i.e. commercial lending, equipment financing/inventory financing and supporting processes/technology

  • Experience in providing oversight for Canadian operational risk regulatory requirements

  • Experience in providing operational risk oversight for cross-border businesses

  • Experience in reviewing and challenging Risk and Control Self-Assessment data

Job Expectations:

  • Required to work during our core business hours; however flexibility is required for early and evening meetings as part of the international engagement model
