Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of tasks within their assigned work area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists in meal preparation for lunch service for daily meal program and preparation of frozen items for Soup To-Go program, including but not limited to; cooking, washing, stocking, and distributing dishes and supplies for the TAAC meal program.
Assists with direct meal service to patrons.
Assists with daily kitchen cleaning to meet State of Colorado Commercial Kitchen Licensing guidelines. In addition, assists with monthly deep cleaning as needed.
Washes dishes using a commercial dishwasher and by hand in a 3-bin sink setup.
Reports hazards and building maintenance needs.
Assists with directing volunteers to perform required duties during their assigned shifts.
Assists with inventory management, supply stocking, labeling, and rotation.
Ability to execute the menu with kitchen staff should management not be available.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
No experience necessary but must be at least 16 years of age with a basic understanding of kitchen equipment and appliances. One year of previous dishwashing experience including experience using a commercial dishwasher preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department.
Knowledge of good sanitary cleaning practices in the kitchen.
Knowledge of sanitary food service practices in the kitchen.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of running a commercial dishwasher.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective customer service.
Skill in the safe and lawful operation of a commercial dishwasher and other kitchen appliances.
Skill in the safe and proper operation of a kitchen, including keeping floors dry and safe.
Skill in maintaining records for stocking and distributing cookware, dishes and supplies.
Ability to read, interpret, understand and comply with instructions and kitchen safety procedures and standards.
Ability to regularly lift a maximum of 50 pounds.
Ability to use standard kitchen cleaning equipment.
Ability to use standard kitchen appliances.
Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and make repetitive motions. The position is mostly medium work; exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned; will be subject to noise, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
