Jacobs Junior Water / Wastewater Treatment Operations Specialist/ Process Engineer in Tempe, Arizona

We are looking for a driven and curious client-focused Junior Water / Wastewater Treatment Operations Specialist/ Process Engineer with machine learning and data science expertise to support our world-wide team. In this role, you'll be highly analytical with a knack for analysis, math, and statistics. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for interpreting data. We also want to see a passion for applications of machine-learning.
As a key member of our digital solutions team, you'll be a core member of a Jacobs group that is developing and providing the next generation of advanced design and process control tools for us and our clients. You’ll have the chance to perform a variety of municipal wastewater and drinking water treatment and potable reuse engineering work in the initial planning and design phase of projects. Working with other members of our digital and O&M teams, you'll work on projects evaluating and selecting the best treatment approach to solve a client’s challenges and planning and designing digital solutions to improve plant performance.
As part of our team, you will also have the opportunity to:
• Collaborate with Jacobs’ deep bench of subject matter experts and solution development teams
• Propose technical solutions and strategies to business challenges, including the development of digital twin applications
• Identify data sources and automate collection processes
• Undertake preprocessing/quality control of structured and unstructured data
• Analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns
• Build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms to benefit clients and the environment
• Combine models through ensemble modeling
• Present information using data visualization techniques
• Prepare documentation explaining results

• Master’s degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering
• Process modeling experience
• Machine learning-based data analysis experience
Ideally, you’ll also have:
• Graduate degree or Minor in Data Science or other quantitative field is preferred
• In-Plant Water or Wastewater treatment experience
• Knowledge of wastewater simulation tools such as Sumo and the associated automation capabilities
• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification or ability to get within a year
• Experience applying data science in Jacobs’ markets, especially water and wastewater applications
• Understanding of machine-learning workflows, data management, technology stacks
• Extensive knowledge and experience in Python, R, and SQL; familiarity or passion to learn JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, C#, and/or C++; GitHub and Azure DevOps
• Experience using business intelligence tools (i.e., Power BI, Tableau) and data frameworks (i.e., Hadoop, Mongo)
• Analytical mind and business acumen
• Strong math skills (i.e., statistics, algebra)
• Problem-solving aptitude
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
