We are currently seeking afull-timePre-Litigation Legal Assistantto join the team in ourTappahannock, VAoffice. The ideal candidate will have a combination of paralegal education, certification as a paralegal, and/or experience working as a paralegal or legal assistant. However, they areNOT MANDATORY
Responsibilities:
As a legal assistant, you will be responsible for all case clerical details before, during, and after trial. Some responsibilities include:
- Aid attorneys and/or paralegals on cases and projects
- Gather and analyze information relevant to claims
- Draft legal documents
- Prepare and draft documents and correspondence necessary to reach settlement
- Maintain client files, electronically and on paper
- Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics etc.)
Competitive applicants for this role will have:
- Proven working experience as a Paralegal, or recent education or certification in the legal field.
- Applicable knowledge of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules, procedures, practices etc.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- The ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- The willingness to be a team player as well as a strong individual contributor
- The ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment
- Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Other desirable skills and experience include:
- Experience in a personal injury law setting.
- Previous experience in case management software; familiarity with Filevine is a plus.
- Paralegal associates degree, other relevant certification, or college degree preferred, but not required
- Litigation experience
- Customer service and interpersonal skills.
