The Psychiatrist is responsible for analyzing a patient's mental health status and providing the necessary treatment. Responsible to admit patients to hospitals, order tests, prescribe medication or recommend therapy. Additionally, the psychiatrist holds regular discussions with patients to diagnose mental disorders or assess a patent's response to treatment.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides consultation and education to PCP’s regarding medication and management of psychiatric disorders.

  • Analyzes and evaluates patient data and test or examination findings to diagnose nature and extent of mental disorder.

  • Prescribes, directs, and administers psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.

  • Collaborates with physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress.

  • Gathers and maintains patient information and records, including social and medical history obtained from patients, relatives, and other professionals.

  • Counsels outpatients and other patients during office visits.

  • Designs individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments.

  • Examines or conducts laboratory or diagnostic tests on patient to provide information on general physical condition and mental disorder.

  • Advises and informs guardians, relatives, and significant others of patients' conditions and treatment.

  • Reviews and evaluates treatment procedures and outcomes of other psychiatrists and medical professionals.

  • Teaches, conducts researches, and publishes findings to increase understanding of mental, emotional, and behavioral states and disorders.

  • Prepares and submits case reports and summaries to government and mental health agencies.

  • Determines level of urgency of follow-up, referral/consultation appointments.

  • Documents all services in patient medical record.

  • Reviews on a regular basis long term cases that require ongoing medical attention.

  • Assists in the resolution of complaints, requests and inquiries from patients.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal guidelines and regulations.

  • Other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques

  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills along with proper telephone etiquette

  • Performs in a tactful and professional manner

  • Willingness to learn and follow clinic’s standards of practice

  • Demonstrable ability to connect with and provide support for patients

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:

  • Medical degree from an accredited school and licensed to practice in state desired

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in psychiatric practice

  • Board Certified in Psychiatry required

  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AMA) or American Red Cross required w/in first 90 days of employment
