Applied Materials Environmental Engineer in Tainan, Taiwan

We are seeking an environmental engineer to directly support the Taiwan team as their main environmental point of contact and also act as the APAC Environmental COE Representative. The qualified person will have experience and knowledge of environmental regulations and be familiar with semiconductor equipment and processes. This position reports to the Global Environmental Manager.

General Profile: Works well within a team to communicate and complete environmental tasks. Is accountable for the performance and results of the Taiwan site and able to provide support for the other Asia Pacific locations for Applied Materials. Adapts business unit, department, site or sub-function plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges. Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business unit, department, or sub-function plan; receives guidance from manager. Provides technical guidance to employees, colleagues and/or customers.

Key Responsibilities

Provide expertise and guidance on environmental requirements for projects and design review including tool installs, abatement units, facility upgrades, and construction. Maintain communication channel with site/location functions. This role will directly support our Taiwan facility and the right candidate should have a strong working knowledge of Taiwan regulations. Preferred person should be Taiwan based, but other preferences will be evaluated. Work within the local team to communicate environmental requirements and compliance activities. Support regional remote sites on environmental compliance issues. Travel to these sites will be periodically required. Oversee consultants at regional and local sites to help drive environmental performance and compliance. Implement environmental programs to ensure compliance at various sites with permitting and reporting requirements for air, wastewater, storm water, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, and spill prevention. Oversee compliance with hazardous materials regulations by ensuring each site maintains chemical inventory, reviews chemicals for environmental regulation applicability, assesses storage thresholds and requirements, and complies with spill/release notification, and hazardous materials transportation requirements. Ensures proper investigations of accident / incidents conducted for EH&S events and drives corrective actions. Lead the investigation into accidents and provide feedback to relevant parties for corrective action. Act as liaison with regulatory authorities for environmental requirements. Track and trend EH&S and Product related legislation and take appropriate action to comply with requirements. Participate in evaluation of emerging global environmental regulations and assess impact to operations. Communicates EH&S Environmental issues to all necessary management and employees. Generates necessary reports and documentation.

Education: Bachelor's Degree

5-10+ years of EHS technical experience with minimum of 3-5 years leadership experience in leading/participating in regional teams.
