SUNY Upstate Medical University Billing Supervisor in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary: Supervisory position responsible for overseeing and coordinating the overall functions of the authorizations team, front desk, radiology front desk/scheduling team, and coding teams to ensure efficient and accurate processes. Responsibilities include work allocation, hiring and training of new staff, problem resolution, providing constructive feedback, and motivating employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Must possess strong leadership and customer service skills and have a working knowledge of insurance carriers. Oversees the operations of the front end and coding teams, encompassing patient check-in, insurance eligibility, payment and copay collection, forms processing, referral processing, advanced radiology exam scheduling, daily charge review, surgical charge review, and insurance pre-authorization of diagnostic imaging, surgical, DME, injection, and miscellaneous services. Plans and

directs daily and monthly assignments/coverage. Analyzes productivity and efficiency of staff. Maintains and reviews training materials and creates appropriate training schedule for new staff. Maintains a working knowledge of all health information management issues such as HIPAA and all health regulations. Understands and remains current on insurance carrier requirements, rule changes, and updates. Participates in the development and implementation of operating policies and procedures. Performs other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates Degree or pertinent college level courses in a related field and four years of progressively responsible medical billing experience, including supervisory experience. Minimum of 1 year of supervisory/managerial experience in a medical setting. Will consider equivalent combination of education and experience.
