SUNY Upstate Medical University Assistant Director of Social Work in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Social Work assists the Director of Social Work with responsibility and accountability for planning, organizing and overseeing the Social Work Department and staff at both hospitals and Upstate ambulatory clinics. The Assistant Director assists in the responsibility of management of social work staff; hiring, supervising, staff evaluations, scheduling, orientating staff, and management of position control. Specific duties include leadership, management, and evaluation of day-to-day department operations, patient and staff satisfaction, coordination of strategic planning, quality management, management and evaluation of transitional service operations, community outreach, collaboration with other health care agencies and institutions, professional practice activities, certification and accreditation activities, staff education and development of community relationships. The Assistant Director actively participates in serval task force and committee meetings, with internal and external stakeholders to collaborate and support throughput and meet patient’s needs. The Assistant Director supports the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of social work initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

NYS licensed/registered social work required. Master's degree in social work required; (Licensed Master or Clinical Social Worker required, experience in Health Care Social Work preferred. Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible leadership experience (preferably in an acute care environment, or social work) required. Minimum of 3 years acute care experience. Excellent written/oral communication, leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills required.

Work Days:

Monday-Friday 8:30am -5pm with occasional on-call to meet operational needs
