Google Senior Director of Engineering, Machine Learning Compiler in Sunnyvale, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience in compiler development, including focus on machine learning optimization and experience with ML accelerators, TPUs or GPUs.

  • 10 years of experience leading and growing technical teams.

  • Experience in machine learning frameworks (e.g., Jax, PyTorch, TensorFlow).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in computer science or related field.

  • Experience building compilers for custom hardware architectures.

  • Experience in computer architecture and high-performance computing.

  • Contributions to open-source compiler projects.

As Senior Director of Engineering, you will present the unique opportunity to shape Google's hardware strategy by orchestrating the development of machine learning (ML) compilers. You'll work at the intersection of research, product development, hardware engineering, and core machine learning teams to seamlessly execute the Machine Learning Compiler roadmap. You will utilize technical depth in compiler development, machine learning expertise, and the ability to build and inspire high-performing teams.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $323,000-$465,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Define the long-term strategic vision for our ML compiler technology and roadmap. Establish technical direction, goals, and development priorities.

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a highly skilled team of compiler engineers focused on machine learning optimization. Create a collaborative, inclusive, and high-achieving work environment.

  • Forge partnerships with research, product, hardware, and core ML teams. Drive alignment and effective collaboration to ensure optimal compiler solutions for Google's custom TPU and GPU strategies.

  • Apply your deep expertise in compilers and machine learning to optimize system performance, reduce software overheads, and seamlessly support new hardware. Advocate for innovation and the application of new technologies.

  • Cultivate an understanding of customer needs, driving a relentless focus on enabling their success through compiler capabilities.
