Postdoctoral Associate / Senior Postdoctoral Associate

The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences invites applications for the Postdoctoral Associate/Senior Postdoctoral position. The title/rank will be contingent upon the selected candidate's skills and experience in their area of expertise.

Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent). Experience working with ecological and oceanographic data.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in oceanography, quantitative ecology, computer science, advanced statistics, fisheries science or a related field. Experience using advanced statistics. Excellence in the field as demonstrated by relevant publications. Strong written communication skills as demonstrated by prior peer-reviewed publications.

Brief Description of Duties:

The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Lesley Thorne (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/somas/people/_profiles/lesley-thorne.php) . The selected candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team of biological and physical oceanographers at Stony Brook University. We seek an enthusiastic and quantitative researcher to develop indicators to help assess the health of the New York Bight pelagic ecosystem and understand the ecology of the broader Northwest Atlantic. Successful candidates will have strong written and oral communication skills, as evidenced through peer-reviewed scientific publications and presentations to a variety of audiences.

Postdoctoral Associate duties will include:

● Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, analyze data; assess and develop ocean indicators.

● Prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.

● Prepare reports and presentations for meetings with funders.

● Work collaboratively with project and lab members on project objectives; participate in lab meetings and training sessions.

● Present at scientific conferences.

● Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Senior Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent). Three (3) years of full-time related research experience. Experience working with ecological and oceanographic data.

Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in oceanography, quantitative ecology, computer science, advanced statistics, fisheries science or a related field. Experience using advanced statistics. Excellence in the field as demonstrated by relevant publications. Strong written communication skills as demonstrated by prior peer-reviewed publications.

The Senior Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Lesley Thorne (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/somas/people/_profiles/lesley-thorne.php) , working on highly complex, and technically broad challenges and problems developing indicators to assess the health of the New York Bight pelagic ecosystem and to further understand the ecology of the broader Northwest Atlantic. Successful candidates will have strong written and oral communication skills, as evidenced through peer-reviewed scientific publications and presentations to a variety of audiences.

Senior Postdoctoral Associate duties will include:

Special Notes:

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
