Summary:

 Our Ocean Science and Technology team is seeking a Part Time Computer/Helpdesk Operator to work iat Stennis Space Center, MS.

  This is a part-time role to fill in on any shift as needed to man the OITC/CSF watch. The expected average work week is about 20 hours per week but may vary week to week. This individual will be providing Computer Operator Support services to operate a customer's site Oceanographic Information Technology Center (OITC) and Central Site Facility (CSF).

Duties & Responsibilities:

Monitor systems and Primary Oceanographic Prediction System (POPS)-Oceans network activity for proper operating conditions, running scripts and monitoring system outputs to ensure systems are operating properly, and report issues to appropriate personnel when corrective actions are necessary. Providing centralized printing and plot services for customer users. Answering the scientific help desk phone and submitting trouble tickets on behalf of customer users for system administrators/network administrators/hardware technicians to address. Monitoring overall OITC and CSF environment (temperature, fire alarms, power panels, etc.) to ensure that the environment is conducive to proper system operation. Be capable of standing an alert, astute watch that ensures the customer's systems operate smoothly and efficiently. Execute computer script to determine system(s) status. Man, a trouble desk, receiving phone-calls and submitting trouble tickets on behalf of customer users. Operating large-scale plotting and/or scanning machines, providing end products to customer users. Performing daily and/or corrective maintenance on OITC and CSF systems as required. Interfacing with remote customer users to verify and ensure product delivery. Periodically assessing OITC and CSF operations, providing recommendations for improvement to the customer.

 

Requirements

: HS Diploma and a min. of 3 years overall experience. 2 years of experience working with various computer system concepts, configurations, analysis, operating procedures, and device interconnections, and knowledge of Information Technology hardware (servers, PCs, disk subsystems, plotters, scanners, etc.), software (Unix and Windows Operating Systems and COTS applications), supplies (tapes, plotter inks/paper, disks, etc.), telecommunication equipment (modems, LAN equipment, etc.), and services (hardware and software maintenance). Must be willing to do shift work when required. Ability to communicate effectively with customers at the highest level. U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
