AAR JV Metrology Technician III - 4826 / Stennis Space in Stennis Space Center, Mississippi

This Position is for a Metrology Technician III with a work location at Stennis Space Center, MS.

POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

Summary:

Performs calibrations in accordance with procedures.

Develops and evaluates new and existing calibration procedures, incorporating process improvements and best practices where possible.

Evaluates and applies laboratory requirements and guidelines to customer specifications and testing needs.

Creates plans and prioritizes work to support on time delivery and customer satisfaction.

Occasional interface with customers to schedule in-place or in-situ calibrations as well as end user questions and inquiries.

Independence:

The Metrology Technician III receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from the laboratory metrologist or manager as needed.  Performs recurring work independently and work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. The Metrology Technician III solves practical problems encountered in fields of specialization.  The Metrology Technician III may perform technical procedures and related activities independently without direct supervision.  Maintains contact with laboratory metrologist and manager routinely and has occasional interface with customers or their representatives.

Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

Calibration, certification, repair, rework, and functional tests of instrumentation, measuring, and test equipment (IM&TE) in complex measurements areas such as: electrical/electronic, liquid and gas flow, pressure, mechanical, temperature, environmental, moisture, physical, optical, dimensional, vibration, combustible gas, instrumentation repair, instrument cleaning and packaging, and other IM&TE using good troubleshooting, calibration, adjustment, and repair techniques and practices. Provides technical direction to other technicians.

Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems.  Provides expertise in fields of specialization.

Performs in-place and in-situ calibrations. Often schedules and leads these calibrations.

Interfaces with customers in resolving technical problems.

Works well with and develops working relationships customers, coworkers, and management within a team concept, and communicates effectively.

Writes revises and edits calibration procedures and computer programs such as MetCal automated calibration routines as necessary.

Performs rework and calibration of measurement and test equipment traceable to the International System of Units (SI).

Receives work assignments from lead metrology technician and performs tasks to an established schedule.

Receives technical assistance and training from laboratory professionals or metrologist as required.

Maintains compliance with company Quality Assurance and Safety policies and procedures and government and quality accreditation policies and procedures.

Conducts a variety of tests using established methods.

Records test data and completes work orders in accordance with laboratory procedures, pointing out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

Continuous improvement and knowledge development in field of specialization or other fields as necessary.

And all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Equivalent technical training.

Four (4) years minimum experience in metrology or related field

Must be competent in developing, modifying and writing calibration methods and procedures.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a NASA PIV badge

Must be a U.S. citizen

Preferred Education and Experience:

Associates degree in Metrology or Electronics

Proficiency in developing, modifying, and evaluating MetCal automated calibration routines.
