ABOUT THE ILLINOIS REGION

The American Red Cross of Illinois serves over 12.4 million people in 88 counties across Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri through a network of six chapters: Central Illinois, Greater Chicago, Illinois River Valley, Northwest Illinois, Quad Cities and West Central Illinois, and South Central Illinois. We're in our local communities every day, helping people prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.

The Illinois Region has a few military installations including the Navy’s largest training installation and home of the Navy’s only Boot Camp, Great Lakes Naval Base. Illinois has VA Medical Centers, 20 Outpatient clinics, 13 Community Based Outpatient Clinics, and 11 Vet Centers throughout the state.

The Illinois Region includes a significant immigrant and refugee population. About 14.2 percent of the state’s residents are foreign-born, and 8.9 percent of its U.S.-born residents live with at least one immigrant parent.

The Illinois Region of the American Red Cross is a fun team of about 80 staff members and about 4,000 volunteers motivated to support the region. As reflected in the Mission of the American Red Cross, the Illinois Region seeks to help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to natural and human-caused disasters through the immediate mobilization of people and resources and the provision of community, workplace, and school-based training. We work

toward this mission through 5 lines of service: Disaster Relief, Blood Services, Service to the Armed Forces, International services and Training Services.

This region delivers Community Disaster Education, First Aid/CPR and other types of life-saving health and safety training to thousands of people to help individuals prevent, prepare, and respond to emergencies. Every day, the Red Cross provides 24/7 global emergency communication services and support in military and veteran health care facilities across the country and around the world. The Red Cross is also the largest supplier of blood products in the country.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview):

Manage a team to establish, strengthen, and grow American Red Cross programs and services to meet the needs of the United Stated military members, veterans, and their families in accordance with Red Cross policies and procedures. Develop long and short-term program strategies. May oversee the implementation of programs and services in communities and military installations. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.

The SAF/IS Department is a team of three, including a SAF/IS Program Specialist and an SAF/IS Program Manager who report to the SAF/IS Director.

The ideal candidate presents an understanding of military structure, exemplifies the American Red Cross fundamental principles and values in their everyday work with Red Crossers and within the community, can demonstrate an ability to cultivate and engage volunteers with compassion, and has experience with international communities.

Veteran Applicants Preferred.

Applicants from the entire Illinois Region are encouraged, ideal home base locations include either Chicago or Peoria. Travel is required throughout the region to support the VA, to manage and attend events. Some duties take place on evenings and weekends.

Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE GOOD (Key Responsibilities):

· Provide guidance, support and assistance to Red Cross field personnel, and ensure programs and services are carried out consistently and in accordance with specified Red Cross policies and procedures within their assigned area. Responsible for management of a team which may include hiring, assigning work, coordinating, training, coaching, and evaluating performance of staff.

· Build and cultivate strong relationships with community leaders, military leaders, government and civic organizations and other charitable agencies to further the mission of the Red Cross. Ensure a year-around public relations program to maintain public goodwill and strengthen financial and logistical support within the military community and command.

· Develop and implement recruitment plans and ensure volunteer staff ratio reflects the diversity of the population being served. Assist with communicating strategic plans and manage the delivery, sustainment and growth of SAF and IS services and programs.

· Ensure the efficient and consistent delivery of programs and services in accordance with specified Red Cross policies and procedures, and strategic plan. Provide assistance on

projects and work assignments as needed. Monitor and report on the outcomes and results of programs and services to ensure organizational accountability operational effectiveness. Make recommendations for continuous improvement to ensure metrics are consistently met.

· Develop and manage budget to ensure sufficient funds are available to support SAF and IS programs and services.

· May conduct training and education to ensure that staff and volunteers can successfully

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):

· Education: Bachelor's degree required.

· Experience: Minimum 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

· Management Experience: 3 years of supervisory or management experience.

· Skills & Abilities: Must be able to operate independently, with initiative, and manage an assigned area of responsibility, with minimal supervision.

· Strong computer skills are required. Public speaking skills and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing are required.

· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with multiple priorities are essential.

· Familiarity with military culture, regulations and protocol is strongly desired. Ability to work on a team.

· Travel: Travel will be required. A valid driver’s license is required.

· Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

· Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
