Job Summary Minnesota State Services for the Blind (SSB) has been serving blind, visually impaired, and Deafblind Minnesotans since 1923. It does so with a staff of over 100 dedicated personnel, over 650 skilled volunteers, an active State Rehabilitation Council for the Blind, and a host of community partners. This position exists to provide the Radio Talking Book with fully trained broadcast personnel. The primary function of this position is to work a rotating schedule covering weekday and weekend morning, daytime, and evening shifts or split shifts when necessary. This position's responsibilities are to prepare and broadcast material for airing, operate all broadcast equipment, route daily papers to appropriate programs, record programs as necessary, and keep the Radio Talking Book network operational daily throughout the year. This position's overall purpose and mission is to facilitate the achievement of vocational and personal independence by adults and children who are blind or visually handicapped by providing them with necessary information that would not otherwise be accessible. This position requires weekday, daytime availability. This posting may be used to fill multiple positions. Associate degree in Communi ations; Audio Production; Radio, Theatre, or TV Production; Journalism; or other closely related field as determined by the agency OR One (1) year of experience in radio broadcasting; radio, TV, or audio production; or other closely related field as determined by the agency Applicants that meet the above minimum qualification will be further evaluated on the following: Knowledge of components necessary for quality audio production including the ability to operate recording and broadcasting equipment Knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Windows, Audacity (or other, similar audio editing software such as Adobe Audition), and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, etc.) to check and respond to emails and create documents Skill in human relations to interact with volunteers and persons participating in recording or live programming Skill in problem solving to troubleshoot issues with broadcast equipment Skill in communication to deliver broadcasts Reading Exercise If selected for an interview, a pass/fail reading exercise will be administered during the interview stage, which will require candidates to read articles aloud and complete a pronunciation test. You must pass this test to qualify for the position. Preferred Qualifications Experience in volunteer coordination or management Experience in professional speaking Experience in broadcasting or audio services Knowledge of pronunciation of English and non-English words and names, with the skill and competency to research words and names not known quickly and accurately Ability to perform under pressure Our employees are dedicated to ensuring cultural responsiveness.
