We are looking for a talented and detail-oriented Energy Risk Management Specialist to join our dynamic team.

The Energy Risk Management (ERM) Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting Power Marketing activities by reporting and measuring portfolio risk. This position ensures that all transactions executed by Power Marketing are accurately captured into the appropriate risk system in a timely manner. The ERM Specialist is responsible for monitoring risks with third parties, preparing reports for Finance, Audit & Risk (FAR) meetings, and maintaining key risk management documents.

What you’ll do:

  • Verify that all Power Marketing transactions are captured accurately and timely in the appropriate risk system.

  • Monitor risks with third parties and prepare monthly risk reports for FAR meetings, explaining monthly risk metrics and reporting trader violations.

  • Understand forward energy curves for mark-to-market energy transactions, including correlations and volatilities for options.

  • Measure and monitor counterparty credit risk for all commodity types, coordinating with Accounting & Finance to assess counterparty financial strength and creditworthiness.

  • Support the administration and negotiation of energy contracts, including standard agreements (ISDA, EEI, NAESB, WSPP) and non-standard agreements.

  • Develop and implement procedures for an Energy Trading and Risk Management System that meets AECI’s needs.

  • Develop and present reports to the Contract & Risk Committee or FAR, monitor risk positions, and ensure accurate transactional data capture in line with AECI’s Risk Policy.

  • Coordinate with E&O’s process to enable counterparties to transact with AECI, including standard contracting and credit review.

  • Provide support for regulatory filings including FERC, CFTC, Dodd/Frank, and quarterly EQR filings.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with precision and speed.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for transactions with industry counterparts and strong planning and organization abilities.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

  • Competency in systems such as energy accounting software, power scheduling software, and RTO interfaces.

  • Familiarity with RTO Settlement calculations and all types of charges.

  • Knowledge of accrual and mark-to-market accounting.

  • Strong understanding of statistics and risk evaluation.
