Eaton Corporation Lead Controls Testing Engineer in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Eaton’s Power Systems Division is currently seeking a Lead Controls Testing Engineer. This position is located at our South Milwaukee, WI. Relocation assistance and company sponsorship will be provided to candidates currently residing within the US/PR.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $91500.03 - $134200.04 a year.

What you’ll do:

The Lead Controls Testing Engineer will be responsible for supporting plant leadership in achieving business and financial goals by developing and maintaining manufacturing automation and test systems. This role will perform a wide variety of engineering and technical tasks involving the application of engineering knowledge and the development of solutions to complex problems pertaining to products, materials, manufacturing processes, tests, and unique design applications. They will support plant Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost by establishing robust test system and processes and automating manufacturing processes with advanced technologies.

  • Leads troubleshooting activities on malfunctioning production machinery, equipment and software. Must be capable of effectively solving problems in the manufacturing environment while abiding by all applicable safety regulations and polices.

  • Develop and review test equipment specifications and compliance. Testing types includes but not limited to AC/DC dielectric withstand test, TCC timing test, partial discharge test, and system/sub-system level functional test.

  • Lead electrical safety process improvement activities and equipment risk reduction projects

  • Analyze legacy applications and make recommendations for how to upgrade or replace the hardware and/or software in order to ensure long term sustainability.

  • Perform upgrades to legacy software in order to support new hardware, changes in third party software or Eaton mandated software changes.

  • Works with manufacturing engineers to develop and evaluate capital appropriation requests (CAR's) for new products, processes, programs and initiatives.

  • Coordinates with local engineering resources and outside vendors to develop functional specifications for new manufacturing machinery and software purchases.

  • Leads the commissioning of new manufacturing machinery and software including installation, debugging, validation testing and communication of changes.

  • Plays an active role in assessment processes within the manufacturing environment. May act as a category lead or champion during an assessment process

  • Develop, implement, and document production test processes and methods.

Qualifications:

​​​​​​Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing testing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering or Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution

  • National Instruments hardware (DIO, DAQ, GPIB, PXI) and software (LabView, TestStand)

  • Medium / High voltage and high current testing experience, knowledge in NFPA70E and OSHA Regulations in Electrical Safety (Arc Flash, LOTO, Approach Boundaries, PPE selection and testing)

  • Experience in control systems & databases - designing and deploying various PLC hardware and software – RSLogix5, 500 &5000, Siemens Step 7, Allen-Bradley HMI systems, VB.Net and C#, SQL-Mgmt studio, Kepware

  • Desirable PM knowledge/experience (Supplier management/Projects/Capital)

  • Experienced on new technologies 4.0 industry standards ( Digital mindset - Machine connectivity, real time monitoring data)

Skills:

  • Ability to troubleshoot AB and Siemens based PLC control systems.

  • Ability to troubleshoot legacy software programs based in VB6.

  • Proficiency in various software applications - MS Office, MS Visual Studio, SQL Management Studio, AutoCAD, Factory Talk, SAP

  • Knowledge of industry and customer specific quality processes (i.e., ISO9001, etc.).

  • Experience with Eaton and other brands of variable speed drives.

  • Thorough understanding of production environments (low-volume/high mix and high volume/low mix) including safety/guarding requirements.

  • Detailed knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques – i.e. value stream mapping, one-piece flow, 5S, etc. Ability to grasp modern technology.

  • Thorough understanding of problem-solving methodologies used in determining root cause and formulating corrective action(s) - i.e. thought maps, 8D, root cause analysis, Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis, control charts, Pareto charts, etc.
