Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a Safety Specialist to be part of a high performing team at the Humber Refinery.

The Safety Specialist plays a key role in ensuring that the highest standards of Occupational Safety management are applied. As Safety Specialist you will be accountable for supporting and coaching all departments of the refinery in raising standards of HSE management as well as working closely with the Operations & Maintenance teams and contract companies to ensure in the field best practice.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Working as part of the Refinery HSE team, reporting to the Safety Team Leader.

  • Proactive promotion and influence of occupational activity and behaviours in the field

  • Collaborating with the refinery business teams to support the development and maintenance of culture of industry best class safety standards to deliver the highest levels of occupational safety performance.

  • Engaging with Operational teams to identify occupational safety improvements and provide safe solutions.

  • Leading investigations into safety incidents as appropriate.

  • Playing an active role during maintenance outages, providing practical occupational safety solutions

  • Ensuring all procedures, guidance documents and templates relating to Safety are updated and comply with current legislation.

  • Chairing and managing Safety Forum(s) to provide overall coordination and leadership to drive safety culture and performance.

  • Delivering regular safety engagement (including safety tours, safety surveillance inspections and safety performance reporting) across the refinery.

  • Delivering HSE training and updates to project teams, focus on reviewing risk assessment and method statements (RAMS), and conducting effective work location inspections.

  • Supporting project/ turnaround teams to ensure that appropriate HSE Plans are in place for all projects.

Position Requirements

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification (NEBOSH/NCRQ Diploma in Health and Safety).

  • Degree in Health, Safety & Environment or post graduate qualification preferred.

  • Operational health & safety experience in an industrial environment.

  • A strong communicator able to express clearly and succinctly ideas, plans and priorities to a wide audience and across all levels of the organisation.

  • Strong analytical skills with excellent report writing and presentation skills.

  • Experience conducting accident / incident investigations and establishing root causes.

  • Experience undertaking risk-based health & safety inspections/ audits and producing reports of findings.

  • Strong IT Skills (Outlook, Word Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Good depth of knowledge in health & safety law.

Desirable:

  • Chartered Membership of IOSH

  • Petrochemical industry experience

On top of this, the Humber Refinery is the UK’s only at scale producer of Sustainable Aviation Fuel, and is also Europe's only producer of battery anode coke, which forms a critical component for lithium-ion batteries used in electrical vehicles and in consumer electronics. Our current production of battery anode coke is equivalent to placing 1.3 million EVs on the road every year, and we are developing multiple projects to expand this capability.
