Individual voice lessons will be scheduled according to the availability of student and instructor. Lessons are typically scheduled between 8am-6pm M-F.

Position Summary Information

Position Summary

SUMMARY : The SRU Theatre Department is seeking a skilled musical theatre vocal instructor to fill a part-time, temporary, faculty position for the 2024-2025 academic year. This position will coordinate with the musical theatre faculty to teach private musical theatre voice lessons to our BFA Acting-Musical Theatre students.

The Theatre Department at SRU is a well-established undergraduate program offering a BFA degree in Acting (with concentrations in Musical Theatre and Acting), as well as BA degrees in Acting, Theatre Arts Management, Design & Technology, and Theatre Studies. Our department focuses on producing contemporary and new work as well as boldly inventive adaptations of the classics.

The successful applicant must demonstrate a commitment to teaching, as well as a demonstrated commitment to teaching diverse populations with inclusion and equity as a focus. Successful performance in an interview and teaching demonstration are required.

In addition to a DEI focus, successful candidates must demonstrate a commitment to collaboration, collegiality, excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as teaching beyond the classroom as essential components of excellent teaching.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES :

Teaching responsibilities: Private Musical Theatre Voice

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :

The candidate must have:

• A Master’s degree in vocal pedagogy, musical theatre or closely-related field; OR a Bachelor’s degree in related field with 3-5 years of successful experience teaching musical theatre voice lessons;

• A broad knowledge of vocal styles, including but not limited to styles of jazz, musical theatre/belt, pop/rock styles;

• strong piano skills;

• An understanding of vocal anatomy and the proven ability to address vocal health and hygiene issues.

Preferred Qualifications

• College-level teaching experience. At least 3 years teaching experience at undergraduate and/or graduate level is preferred;

• Certification in any of the following specializations: CCM , Somatic Voice Work, Complete Vocal Technique, Estill;

• Professional experience as a musical theatre performer as demonstrated via curriculum vitae and/or professional resume’.
